Melbourne Intensive Tango Ensemble Workshop
Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October 2026, 6:00-9:00 pm daily

Just a couple of places remain at this fantastic opportunity for musicians of all levels (parts are written per instrument at three levels - advanced, intermediate and foundational - so players at different stages can sit in the same ensemble. Piano and double bass players should be comfortable reading chord symbols).

Join Argentine saxophone virtuoso Jorge Retamoza for a 5-day intensive tango ensemble workshop — an immersive, hands-on experience designed for musicians.

Our Conference Partner Community Music Victoria is bringing Dr Craig Barrie and Nicki Johnson to Sound Connections!

Their session, 'Community Music as an invitation to be music in a world of music making', unpacks the idea that facilitating community music is an invitation to be music together. They contrast two ways of thinking about music: as production, where the goal is a product like a recording or performance, and as activity, where the goal is being in the music together. The discussion explores what prioritising music as activity might mean in our daily practice as music educators and facilitators, and how generative AI is both a threat and an opportunity to that way of thinking.

Huge thanks to Community Music Victoria for partnering with us and for bringing this conversation to Victorian music educators.
