There are not many times when you get to watch something you sent to Uganda ten years ago begin a whole new life!
This is the very same shipping container that I Am Someone sent to Uganda ten years ago full of clothing and school equipment. It has been at the I Am Someone Centre in Kasese, where it has been used for a range of this including being rented out to small business owners.
Now, ten years later, we are moving it to our farm.
And, as you can see, it isn't quite as simple as it sounds!
The container has a new job to do. At the farm, it will provide a shady place where farmers can rest, a secure space to store tools and equipment, and somewhere to safely store food produced on the farm while it waits to go to market.
So, after ten years, this old shipping container is getting a new and very useful life.
Watching it being dragged through the dirt — and getting well and truly stuck along the way — was quite a demonstration in teamwork and determination.
It is a reminder that the things we send, the money we raise and the resources we provide have long term impacts for these communities.
Ten years on, this container is still being put to work, now it is helping support the farmers to generate income for the i Am Someone work in Uganda.
And yes... getting it there was definitely the hard part!
