When my son Flynn was diagnosed with Diamond-Blackfan anaemia at just one year old, our world changed overnight.

Like many families facing a Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome, we often felt scared and isolated. Through Maddie's Vision, we found a community that understood what we were going through and reminded us that we weren't facing it alone.

Maddie’s Vision is proud to help advance critical research into Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes through a project led by Associate Professor Kirsten Fairfax and her team at the University of Tasmania.

This initiative is supported by the Tasmanian Government through the Community Participation and Appeals Fund, together with The Alex Gadomski Fellowship. We are grateful for their support in helping make this important work possible.

Building on research previously funded by Maddie’s Vision, the team will use advanced gene-editing approaches to better understand these diseases and deploy precision genetic methods to correct disease-causing genetic changes in inherited Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes.

This project aims to create future pathways towards more targeted treatment options for patients and families affected by these rare conditions.

Maddie’s Vision is honoured to continue helping accelerate Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome research in Tasmania and looks forward to seeing the positive impact this work may have for patients and families.

We would like to take a moment to recognise one of our long-standing and dedicated partners, Francis Venues, for their ongoing commitment to Maddie Riewoldt's Vision.

Throughout April, Francis Venues had everyone enjoying parma’s with a purpose, donating $1 from every parma sold across their venues. Thanks to the generosity of their teams and customers, an incredible $4,852 was raised to support patients and families affected by Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes.

We were also honoured to have members of the Francis Venues team join us at the Table for Change Gala on Friday 22 May, to stand alongside our community and share in a powerful evening of hope, impact and progress.
