Vale Jean Wynn
Softball Victoria is saddened to learn of the passing of Hall of Fame member Jean Wynn.
Known affectionately as "Aunty Jean" to her close Softball community, Jean was a much-loved member of the Springvale Softball Club and the Dandenong Softball Association. Softball was truly a family affair for the Wynns, with Jean and her late husband Doug dedicating countless years of service to the sport they both loved. Doug, who sadly passed away last year, was a highly respected coach, while Jean's passion lay in scoring and statistics.
Jean regularly scored for her Springvale teams and performed statistician duties across Dandenong representative programs for many years. Her commitment and expertise saw her appointed as Statistician for the Victorian Open Women's Team in 1979, a position she held for nine years. In 1988, she was appointed Statistician for the Victorian Open Men's Team, serving in the role for ten years — the second-longest tenure in the team's history.
Jean also served as Statistician for the Victorian U16 Boys Team in 1991, 1992 and 1993, alongside Doug, who was Head Coach during those campaigns.
Her contributions extended well beyond Victoria. In 1982, Jean toured New Zealand with the Australian Open Women's Team for the Pan Am Classic. She later served as Statistician for the Australian U19 Women's Team tour of China in 1984 and the Australian Women's Olympic Youth Team in 1985.
Across a remarkable 15-year representative career, Jean received 18 Victorian State Team appointments. She was also heavily involved in developing scoring and statistics throughout Victoria, generously mentoring and supporting countless new statisticians entering the sport.
Jean's dedication, expertise and unwavering commitment to softball were recognised with her induction into the Softball Victoria Hall of Fame, an honour that reflects the significant impact she had on the sport and the many people fortunate enough to work alongside her.
Jean leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, generosity and friendship within the softball community.
Our thoughts are with Jean and Doug's family, friends, teammates and all those whose lives they touched through softball. đź’”
