Happy 8th birthday to our Bli Bli Op Shop. 🎉💛

Yesterday we celebrated with cake, decorations, a lucky draw and, most importantly, plenty of the people who have made the shop what it is over the past eight years.

Our volunteers. Our shoppers. The people who drop in with donations. The locals who pop in regularly for a browse, a chat or to see what’s new.

It’s easy to think of an Op Shop as simply a place where good things find a second home. But for Mingary Care, our shops are also a very real part of how our work happens.

We receive no government funding, so the money raised through our Op Shops helps us provide free, short-term practical support for people who are dying — and the people around them — when help isn’t available, affordable or able to start quickly enough.

That makes all those everyday things — donating a bag of clothes, finding a bargain, volunteering a few hours — part of something much bigger.

So yesterday we celebrated eight years of Bli Bli.

Eight years of people walking through the doors, giving their time, giving things another life and helping make care possible for people in our community.

Happy birthday, Bli Bli. And thank you to everyone who has been part of it. 💛

A very big thank you to our friends at ABM – Austral Business Machines for their ongoing and invaluable support of Mingary Care. 💛

ABM’s official business is photocopiers, printers, phone systems and document solutions.

At Mingary Care, we know what that means in practice.

It means someone can pick up the phone and reach us when they need support.

It means a referrer can get the information they need quickly.

It means our team can print, scan and share what’s needed without technology slowing things down.

When someone is dying and care can’t wait, those everyday things matter.

We’re incredibly grateful to the ABM team — not only for the equipment and support they provide, but for the responsive, personal service that comes with it.

It’s a relationship we value enormously, and one that supports the everyday work of Mingary Care in ways people may never see.

The ABC Four Corners investigation The Waiting Game has put aged care assessments firmly in the spotlight — but the challenges around access, eligibility and timing are not new.

Palliative Care Australia is highlighting an important part of this conversation: whether aged care assessments are adequately identifying and responding to the palliative care needs of older Australians.

At Mingary Care, we repeatedly see what can happen when assessment processes, eligibility criteria and available services don’t align with what a person actually needs — or when they need it.
It’s a gap that can leave people and families without the practical support they need at an already difficult time — and it’s the gap Mingary Care was created to help bridge.

We provide free, short-term practical support, tailored to the circumstances of the person and those around them.

When care can’t wait, we step in. 💙

An important contribution from Palliative Care Australia to a conversation that matters.

Palliative Care Australia (PCA) says questions about aged care assessments highlight a fundamental issue: whether people with serious and life-limiting illness are getting timely access to the care they need.

The ABC’s Four Corners investigation, 'The Waiting Game', has put a spotlight on the Integrated Assessment Tool used to assess older Australians seeking government-funded aged care.

PCA CEO Dr Chris Hatherly says any system determining access to aged care must be based on a comprehensive understanding of the needs of the individual.

A midweek boost of joy 💛

Such an inspiring morning celebrating the 2026 QCF Sunshine Coast Community Foundation grant recipients alongside Queensland Gives.

It was wonderful to meet so many incredible people from organisations doing meaningful work across the Sunshine Coast — the kind of morning that leaves you feeling energised, hopeful and grateful to be part of such a generous community.

15 years. A lot of change. And a very special volunteer. 💛

Today, Mary celebrates an incredible 15 years as a Mingary Care volunteer — and we couldn’t let the day pass without celebrating her.

Over those 15 years, Mary has given Mingary so much — her time, her energy, her support and her steady presence through all the changes and new chapters along the way.

We’re enormously grateful for the contribution Mary has made over the years, and for the part she continues to play in our Mingary community.

Mary, thank you for everything you’ve given to Mingary Care over the past 15 years. We have loved having you with us every step of the way. 💛

Talking openly about dying can feel confronting—but these conversations matter.

This episode of ABC Compass offers a deeply personal look at voluntary assisted dying, the choices people may face at the end of life, and the experiences of the people around them.

No matter where you stand on this issue, stories like these can build understanding and encourage meaningful conversations about death, dying and end-of-life care.

Look at these stunners! ✨

Mingary Care directors Michael Goodwin and Beverley Barton brought a little black-tie sparkle to the Kaizen Charity Casino Night last Saturday.

The night was full of glamour, laughter and friendly (heated!) competition — and it raised funds and awareness for two local organisations supporting people through some of life’s hardest moments.

For Mingary Care, community support is what keeps our work moving. We’re here for local people when someone is dying, and nights like this are a lovely reminder that our community is here for us too.

A huge thank you to the Kaizen Exercise Physiologists team for creating such a fabulous evening, and to everyone who came along and supported Mingary Care and SunnyKids.
