We’re a little overdue in saying this publicly, but no less delighted — please join us in welcoming Wendy Delaney to the Mingary Care Board.

Wendy joined the Board earlier this year and brings a wealth of experience in palliative and end-of-life care. As Nurse Unit Manager at Dove Specialist Palliative Care Unit in Caloundra, she understands the reality of care from both a clinical and deeply human perspective.

Her experience across hospital, community and outreach palliative care brings valuable insight to our Board and strengthens the mix of skills, perspectives and lived professional experience guiding Mingary Care.

We’re so happy to have Wendy on board as we continue supporting people who are dying — and the people around them — with free, short-term practical help when care can’t wait.

Welcome to the team, Wendy.

💛 Another beautiful gift from Currimundi Lakeside Villas 💛

The gorgeous humans behind the Currimundi Lakeside Villas Craft Sale have done it again — donating another $500 to Mingary Care.

There’s something pretty special about this kind of support.

It comes from time, skill, care, conversation, cups of tea, busy hands, and a group of people choosing to use what they love doing to help others.

We’re so grateful for the ongoing kindness of this group, and for the way they keep showing up for Mingary Care in such a generous, practical way.

To everyone involved in the craft sale: thank you. We appreciate you more than words can say. 💛

💛 A Huge Thank You to Jace and the team at Dan Murphy’s Caloundra!

We’re incredibly grateful to have been selected as a recipient of a donation through Dan Murphy’s Regional Heroes Program.

The program gives Dan Murphy’s team members the opportunity to nominate local organisations making a difference in their community, and we’re honoured that Jace nominated Mingary Care.

Thanks to that nomination, Mingary Care has received a $1,000 donation to help fund free, short-term practical support for people who are dying — and the people around them — across the Sunshine Coast and Gympie.

As a community-funded charity, support like this has a real impact. It helps us step in when support isn’t available, affordable, or able to start quickly. It helps fund practical essentials such as in-home support, equipment, transport, respite care and other support that can make a difficult time a little easier.

To Jace — thank you for seeing value in what we do and for putting Mingary Care forward. Community support comes in many forms, and this is one of them. We're very grateful. 💛

And to the Dan Murphy’s Caloundra team and the Regional Heroes Program — thank you for backing local organisations and the communities they serve.

Community-funded. Locally delivered.

This is exactly the kind of gap Mingary Care sees every day.

The proposed NDIS changes are still being considered, but the concerns raised here matter.

When someone is dying, support needs can change quickly. Families and carers often don’t have weeks or months to wait while systems work out who is responsible.

People should not be left caught between health, aged care, disability and other support systems — especially when time is short and the need is real.

Mingary Care exists because these gaps are not theoretical. They affect real people, in real homes, right here in our community.

We welcome Palliative Care Australia’s advocacy on behalf of people with life-limiting illness — and the people around them — and we’ll be watching this closely as the Bill moves through Parliament.

When care can’t wait, we step in.
Community-funded. Locally delivered.

Palliative Care Australia (PCA) has warned that proposed amendments to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Act risk leaving people with life-limiting illness without access to essential care and support.

In a submission to the Senate Committee Inquiry into the amendments to the NDIS legislation, PCA raised serious concerns that the Bill, as currently drafted, presents an unacceptable risk to the safe and dignified care of people whose support needs arise from a life-limiting condition.

Today we’re sending a very heartfelt thank you and farewell to our wonderful Cath from our Warana store. 💛

Cath has been part of Mingary Care since 2012, which means she has been with us through more than 14 years of change, growth and history.

From our former Mapleton and Montville shops, through to Warana, Cath has been one of those people who simply keeps showing up — loyal, generous, kind and quietly fabulous.

There are some people who become part of the fabric of a place. Cath is absolutely one of them.

As she heads off to Bundaberg for her next chapter, we want to say thank you, Cath, for everything you’ve given, shared and been part of over so many years.

Cath’s last day at our Warana store will be Monday 8 June, so if you’re one of our Warana regulars, feel free to pop in and wish her all the very best.

You leave with our deepest gratitude, our warmest wishes and a very special place in Mingary’s story. 💛

Final shout out to our Hang Ya Boss bosses!

One last cheer for the brilliant local bosses who got hung out to dry for Mingary Care — and lived to tell the tale.

From fundraising links and phone calls from the sky to scissor lifts, certificates, trophies and plenty of laughs, this event was everything we hoped it would be: bold, good-humoured, community-backed and deeply worthwhile.

A huge thank you to our Hang Ya Boss legends:

Liam Kelleher from Sunshine Coast Civil
Rick Hipwood from CTB Advisory
Brett Barton from Verified Businesses - Business Brokers Sunshine Coast and Brisbane
Reuben Park from Ray White Maroochydore
Sue Mason-Baker from Mingary Care
Bruce Baynes from Sage Care Advice

Each boss also received a certificate and a mini scissor lift as a small thank you — a fun little reminder of the day, and of the very real difference they helped make.

Not all of our bosses are pictured here, but every one of them helped make the day what it was. A special shout out to Paul Rawson from Sunshine Coast Civil, pictured accepting Liam Kelleher’s thank-you gift on his behalf.

Underneath all the fun was the real reason we did it.

Every donation helps Mingary Care step in with free, short-term practical help for people who are dying — and the people around them — when support isn’t available, affordable or fast enough.

To our bosses, donors, supporters, crews, cheer squads and everyone who helped make it happen: thank you. You helped turn a slightly outrageous idea into real support for local people.

Stay tuned for next year. We’ll be on the lookout for more bosses, even more fun and, of course, the donations that make it all worth it.

When care can’t wait, we step in.
Community-funded. Locally delivered.

By now, you may have gathered something important:

We really, really love our volunteers. 💛

And as National Volunteer Week wraps up, we want to say one more thing.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, maybe this is your nudge.

Volunteering with Mingary Care doesn’t have to mean one particular thing.

You might be great with customers.
You might love sorting donations.
You might have an eye for treasures.
You might be handy behind the scenes.
You might have a few hours a week, or a little time here and there.

Every bit helps.

Because at Mingary Care, volunteer time helps turn donated goods into free, short-term practical support for people who are dying — and the people around them — on the Sunshine Coast and in Gympie.

It helps fund practical essentials.
It helps ease pressure.
It helps care reach people when support isn’t available, affordable or fast enough.

And yes, there are laughs. There are friendships. There are good people doing useful things together.

No cape required. No special superpower needed.

Just a little time, a kind heart, and a willingness to be part of something local that really does matter.

If this might be your year to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. 🫶

Our volunteers are a shy, unassuming bunch.

Or at least, that’s what they tell us whenever we try to take photos for the ol’ social media feed. 😉

They’re not here for the spotlight.
They’re here for the community.
The connection.
The fun.
The friendships.

And the chance to be part of something that helps local people when life gets really hard.

But given it’s National Volunteer Week, we’ve gently (unashamedly) begged, lightly (desperately) cajoled, and lovingly (madly) trawled the archives to find a few photos.

Because we want to say this properly:

We love and appreciate our volunteers. 💛

They show up — day after day, week after week — sorting donations, serving customers, pricing treasures, tidying shelves, lifting boxes, answering questions, sharing laughs and quietly keeping things moving.

Their generosity with their time is a huge part of what makes Mingary Care tick.
Every hour given helps fund free, short-term practical support for people who are dying — and the people around them — on the Sunshine Coast and in Gympie.

Most of them would happily stay behind the scenes.
So we won’t make too much of a fuss.

Just enough of one to say: we see you, we appreciate you, and Mingary Care wouldn’t be Mingary Care without you. 🫶
