You could help change the direction of a child or young person's life. Two hours a fortnight and a positive influence can have a really big impact.

Connect Kids is a broad based volunteer mentoring program designed to support vulnerable kids on the Sunshine Coast with the aim to end the cycle of inter-generational disadvantage in our communities. According to the latest Poverty in Australia report from the Australian Council of Social Service, around 757,000 children aged 0 to 14 are living below the poverty line in Australia today.

This isn't a distant issue. It's happening in communities like ours, right now, and it's why Connect Kids exists.

Through mentoring, tutoring and family support, we work directly with kids and families facing exactly this kind of disadvantage. And because we receive no government funding, every bit of support from our community goes straight into changing these numbers, one family at a time.

🌟 A Story of Growth, Courage & New Beginnings 🌟
At just 22 years old, Amelia is taking on her next big challenge — and we couldn't be prouder of how far she has come. ❤️

Amelia’s journey is one of resilience, determination and taking chances on herself. From initially finding it difficult to engage with support, she has taken some incredible leaps forward and is now striving towards building a future for herself and her family.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Amelia grow into motherhood, raising her twin boys, who are now four years old. Along the way, she discovered a passion for learning and decided to take another big step by enrolling in a Business course through Vocational Pathways at Steps College.

But Amelia wasn't stopping there.

With the possibility of a future degree now in sight, she decided to challenge herself even further — by taking on her very first job! 🎓💼
In the little spare time she has between being a mum, studying and managing everyday life, Amelia has been out in her local community handing out pamphlets and gaining valuable work experience.
What makes this story so special isn't just the milestones themselves — it's the confidence, independence and determination Amelia has built along the way.

From becoming a mum, to returning to education, to taking those first steps into employment, Amelia continues to show what can happen when someone is given the opportunity, encouragement and support to believe in themselves.

Some mountains are literal. Others are the quieter battles that come before someone even says yes to a mentor. Dom's story is both ⛰️

Not long ago, stepping away from his comfort zone felt hard for Dom. Climbing Mount Ngungun felt like something that happened to other people. But with the right support, patience, and a mentor who believed in him, he took that first step anyway and didn't stop until he reached the top.

Now Dom's setting his sights on the next mountain: finding a job and building the independent future he deserves.

This is what mentoring looks like in real life. Not overnight change, but steady, supported steps forward, one at a time.

Connect Kids knows that safe, secure housing is one of the biggest factors in a child's physical and mental health, behaviour, development, and education.

That's why when we learn a family is facing a housing crisis, we step in and do whatever we can to help.

We aren't paid to provide this support. We do it because we know the fallout of a family becoming homeless is far greater than the effort it takes to address the problem before it becomes a crisis.
