🩵 I Got My Tomorrow. I Wish She Got Hers 🩵
A few years ago, I hit what felt like rock bottom.
It was around midnight. I couldn’t see past what I was feeling, and I attempted to take my own life.
Then I received a message from Deanne:
“I will go driving into the forest if I have to, and I really don’t want to.”
Deanne wasn’t just saying she would come looking for me. She was already doing it.
Around midnight, my sister was driving the streets near my house trying to find me. Deanne really struggled with driving and avoided it whenever she could, so I knew exactly what it took for her to be behind that wheel searching for me.
That one message snapped me out of it.
Deanne and I sat together afterwards and cried. Dad slept on my couch that night because he was worried I might try again, but in my heart, I knew I never would.
Seeing what it had done to my sister made me realise I could never, ever do that to my family.
Deanne gave me another tomorrow.
And I’m sharing my story because I hope someone who feels like they’ve hit rock bottom can read this and understand that there’s so much more life beyond the moment they’re in.
Back then, I couldn’t see it.
Since that night, I’ve lived many more happy years. I’ve experienced things I never thought I would. I’ve fallen in love, got married, and built a life I couldn’t have even imagined back then.
Today, I should have everything to be happy about.
But I don’t have my sister.
And I’ll be honest about another tough reality.
Since losing Deanne, su***de has crossed my mind again.
That’s a sad and confronting part of what this loss has done to me. But I want people to understand the difference between a thought entering my mind and something I would actually do.
I would never, ever follow through with it.
I know what that road looks like now. I know what it leaves behind. And I know there can be another tomorrow even when today feels unbearable.
Right now, I’m still learning how to live without my sister. Some days, it’s day by day. Sometimes, it’s hour by hour.
But I’m still here.
And whether I’m weak or strong, if someone else is having those thoughts, I’ll listen. I can’t fix everything, but I can help you find someone who can help you through those moments.
Because Deanne did that for me.
There was so much life waiting for me that night I simply couldn’t see yet.
If you’re in that place now, please don’t let one moment decide all the tomorrows you haven’t seen yet.
With September approaching, I’ve also set myself a challenge for su***de prevention. I’ll share some updates throughout the month, but what I’m doing will not be posted until I’ve finished.
Maybe my story, one chat, or one of Deanne’s little painted rocks 🪨 will reach someone at just the right moment.
Sometimes one message really is enough. 🩵
🩵 It ain’t weak to speak.
