In Memory of Joy Palmer

It is fitting this month with many recognised environmental days, to reflect on the work Joy did as our Agriculture and Environment Officer, now that we have come to terms with her sad loss earlier this year.

Joy was a treasured part of the and broader community including Maitland Show and a friend to so many. She brought warmth, kindness, humor, and a positivity that made everyone around her feel welcome and valued. Joy also introduced new members including her granddaughter, Katie.

Her contribution to Maitland CWA went far beyond attending meetings and presenting reports. Her effort in contacting schools and receiving nearly 100 entries across the frog colouring in and short story competitions was amazing. Then we had to choose the best for Group and would you believe, they went to State! The result was the short story by Bridie came first and the colouring in by Archie came second. Then to top off the awards, her Annual report won Best Branch report at State as well.

Joy helped create the spirit of community that made any event so special, her button accordion skills and her impact will never be forgotten. While we miss her deeply, we are grateful for the memories, laughter, and friendships she leaves behind.

“Those we have held in our arms for a little while, we hold in our hearts forever.”

Australia is known across the world for its stunning coasts, so this we’re celebrating everything in the ocean. From reef-building corals and forests of kelp, to the world’s largest fish, the whale shark, and migrating southern right whales, much of Australia’s iconic marine life is now sadly classed as Threatened with Extinction.

Today is a reminder that our oceans aren’t just beautiful, they’re vital. Protecting them and the animals living in them means protecting our future and the extraordinary biodiversity that makes Australia unlike anywhere else on Earth.

cares for all parts of our environment, when did you last listen to the ocean or watch the whale migration, now is the time! 🐳🐙🦀🐠🌊

Let’s connect with the deep blue sea this World Oceans Day!

On this day, we are highlighting another Australian wide organisation we assist with in-kind donations Share the Dignity. We encourage donations in March and August through their Dignity Drive campaign with Woolworths and the It’s in the Bag campaign with Bunnings for Christmas.

Menstrual health is a human right, and periods are just as natural as breathing. Without periods, no one would be here.

Let's end the stigma around menstruation.

UNFPA works to improve menstrual health around the world, ensuring dignity for all.

Thursday is Menstrual Hygiene Day.
