Not long now until the whales bid us farewell and the turtles start heading back to nest! We usually see an increase in stranding reports in the lead up to nesting season with lots of tired turtles having a snooze on the sand. Place and time now locked in!
We will be at the NQBP Connection Hub at the Harbour for our community information morning. There will be volunteers on hand from most of our local beaches, who are keen to share some knowledge and answer all your turtle conservation questions.

Bit of a shout out post here to acknowledge our behind the scenes friends at Kapow Interactive for all the help and patience they have with us in all things IT. As volunteers from all walks of life with work and families as well as turtles to keep us busy, we rely on people who actually know what they are doing to answer all our silly questions and help us with the tech stuff.

Here's a random fact for you, just for fun! 🤩

🐢A hatchling turtle is born with a caruncle, a tiny, temporary, and sharp bump on its beak made of keratin. Often called an "egg tooth," this allows the baby turtle to crack its leathery shell to emerge, and it falls off naturally within a few days of hatching. 🐢

Special shout out to the fabulous Flatback who frequents our shores 🤩

Happy Flatback Day for 2026!

Did you know that saltwater crocodiles — the largest reptile on earth — sometimes prey on flatbacks. Adult females have been observed being attacked by crocs while attempting to nest. Yikes! 😳

Flatbacks are also unique because they’re found only in waters around Australia and have flatter shells than other sea turtles!
