We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of a young person, reportedly connected to an alleged incident involving strangulation during sexual activity.
Women's Health Northern Rivers has been training service providers locally on Identifying & Responding to Non-Fatal Strangulation & Sexual Choking in Health & Youth Settings and Responding to Non-Fatal Strangulation & Possible Brain Injury in DFV and Sexual Assault Work. We have resources to share that support service providers like GPs, educators and other allied health professionals to have conversations with young people about sexual choking. WHNR can also offer in-service training to teams on non-fatal strangulation, sexual choking and acquired brain injury . Please reach out if you'd like to learn more or engage us for some training.
Police are continuing to investigate the death of a 16-year-old Sydney girl, which the ABC understands is being treated as a suspected sexual choking act.
