Connect Northern Rivers recently teamed up with Summerland Bank to deliver free financial literacy workshops for young people across the Northern Rivers… covering real-life topics like tax, super, banking, budgeting, debt, and staying safe from online scams.

Delivered at The Space in Lismore in a culturally safe, youth-led environment, the workshops gave young people practical knowledge and confidence to better understand money and make informed financial decisions.
📊 The impact:
✔️ 86% found the workshops useful
✔️ 79% felt more confident managing money
✔️ 94% nailed the superannuation question

Because financial literacy isn’t a luxury — it’s a life skill. 💡

🌟 Work Placement Spotlight 🌟

Work placement gives students the opportunity to step outside the classroom, build real-world skills, and gain valuable insight into industry and future career pathways.

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Serenity from Tweed River High School , who recently completed her Business Services work placement and embraced the experience with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. 👏

From unsure… to on the tools 🛠️

After hearing about Connect's Get Back in the Game program through his girlfriend, Alex decided to reach out... and it’s paid off.

Get Back in the Game is all about supporting young people to build confidence, find direction, and connect with real opportunities in work or training.

Alex had a clear goal of starting a carpentry apprenticeship, but no idea where to begin. With support from the team at Connect Northern Rivers, he started exploring his options and linking in with local industry.

Like a lot of young people, the hardest part was getting a foot in the door. Through local connections, he was offered a trial with a carpenter... and he made the most of it.

Now, Alex is working in construction, building skills, gaining experience, and doing something he genuinely enjoys.

With the right support (and a fresh set of tools to get started), he’s on track to build a career in carpentry.

The countdown is officially on for the 2026 Connect Northern Rivers Careers Expo!

In just 13 weeks, thousands of students, job seekers, schools, training providers and industry representatives from across the region will come together to explore future pathways, careers, training opportunities and local industry connections.

Whether you’re looking at apprenticeships, traineeships, university, employment, or wanting to discover what industries are growing right here in our region... there will be something for everyone.

✨ NSW Youth Week Spotlight – Wrapping Up the Week

As we come to the end of NSW Youth Week, we’re proud to celebrate the young people across our region who are turning their goals into action.

Meet Candice from Tweed Valley Adventist College, currently completing her Cert III in Business Services while gaining hands-on experience through work placement right here at Connect Northern Rivers.

Through opportunities like this, Candice is building practical skills, growing her confidence and gaining valuable insight into the workplace... all while taking meaningful steps toward her future.

As Youth Week wraps up, we would like to thank all the students, schools and industry across the region who continue to support young people to dream big, take opportunities and build their future pathways.

Youth Week is all about recognising the drive and potential of young people in our communities.

Asante, from The Rivers Secondary College Kadina High Campus, is a great example… balancing her HSC with a Cert III in Business Services (TAFE Online) and gaining real-world experience through her work placement at Richmond Tweed Regional Library – Lismore.

These opportunities are helping young people build confidence and take meaningful steps toward their future.

Moments that Matter 🙌🏼

A big shout-out to our incredible team Jade and Hope from our Coffs Harbour office for supporting and supervising HSC VET students Ahkeem, Matias and Crue during their AWS placement!

We received first-hand feedback on how much the boys enjoyed their week-long experience that was all about AI in Industry and the Future of Work 🤖

From cloud computing and machine learning to cybersecurity and AI, they got the chance to explore cutting-edge technologies and gain insight into
emerging career pathways 💥😲
