đź”° President's Report 2025 by Mike Carter
Last year was a massive year for our Rural Youth Club. On top of meeting once a month to discuss general business topics, we were also able to learn a number of new skills after each meeting.
We were given a polymer clay demonstration by Mellissa, and then got to make a design of our own. Lyndell and Dan gave us advice on planting flowers, fruits and vegetables to get them ready for Lismore Show.
We were given a lesson on maintenance and correct use of tools by Dan.
Marilyn helped us make scrap books to show off our achievements, which could be entered in Lismore Show.
Tara Coles and Melissa showed us some tips and tricks when it comes to public speaking. Following this, many of our rural youth members gave a speech of their own on any topic that interested them.
In addition to our meetings, we were able to host and attend two field days.
The first field day was in may, at Lismore Showgrounds, where we were given the opportunity to judge vegetables, eggs and some very nice banana cakes. We were asked to identify weeds, pastures and farming tools, and cooking ingredients and utensils. Prizes were given out after a shared lunch to the members who excelled overall.
Our second field day was to the Wilson’s robotic dairy where we saw first hand how technology can be used to increase farm production and improve animal welfare.
A team of people helped to set up a promotional display at Kyogle Show in late September, in an attempt to get a Kyogle Club running, and to attract new members to our Lismore club.
As Lismore show rolled around, we prepared a competitive display, full of art works, photography, flowers, cooking and wood wok projects, all made by our members.
A few of us also entered in the Rural Youth Cattle section at the Show. We versed each other in a class to determine whose animals were better, and then had a friendly paraders competition, where members versed each other to see who the top parader was.
After such a big year, even our Christmas party was bigger than anyone could’ve expected, with Chanel 9 news turning up to run a story on that nights news program. They interviewed Marilyn and myself, and got some footage of our awards ceremony. This we hope is a big success at promoting our club and attracting more members.
2025 was a huge success, full of fun, memories and new life skills, but we hope 2026 will bring many more.
