Our launch on Saturday is at the Mid Mountains Community. It's a great child friendly venue. Lots of space for kids to run around and a playground for small kids. We'll also have a quiet corner in the hall for kids to read, draw or play quietly.

Hi everyone!

We are Voices of Macquarie, and we’d like to introduce ourselves to the community!
We are a small group of locals who are frustrated with the major parties, and would like to make change in our community. Voices of Macquarie is a community-led initiative bringing people together from across the electorate to connect, discuss shared priorities and strengthen local participation in our democracy.

You may have seen our article featured in this week’s Gazette - we’ve attached it here for those interested.

You’re warmly invited to our launch event:
📍 Lawson Community Centre
🗓 Saturday 28 March
⏰ 1:00pm

The afternoon will include a guest speaker (Kate Hook, independent candidate for Calare), live music and an opportunity to meet others from across the community and learn more about what we’re building together.
Whether it’s PFAS, climate change, health services, integrity in politics, gambling, or Gaza - we want to hear from you! It will be an afternoon shaped around community connection and discussion.
If you’d like a little more info, check out our page, and visit: vomq.org.au
Please feel free to share our mission with your friends, family and community. The more voices, the better!

A “Voices of” group is a community-led movement that aims to improve how a local area is represented in politics - by putting community views first, rather than party agendas.✊

Instead of being a political party, a Voices group typically:

🌱Has residents come together to discuss local priorities and shape the direction of representation.
🌱Focuses solely on the interests of the community, not a political party.
🌱Allows the community to collectively identify and support a candidate who genuinely reflects local values and concerns.

This model has helped elect independents like Cathy McGowan, Zali Steggall, and Helen Haines - all backed by strong community movements💪🔥

OUR COMMITTEE:
Simon Salter

“I’m supporting the Voices of Macquarie because I want members of parliament who represent me and my neighbours in my electorate…MPs who work for me, and not for a political party. I am disappointed that political parties say one thing in the months before an election, and then do another after the election, often to appease those who made political donations to them.

I don’t think that enough is being done by state or federal political parties to lessen the impact of climate change in Australia. It is being treated with ‘political expediency’ for the sake of revenue and donations- for short term corporate gain rather than long term net-zero investment in our communities.

I moved from Sydney to the Blue Mountains in 2024 and now call it my home. I love the vibrant artistic and musical communities and diversity of the Blue Mountains. The scenery and unique landscape are second to none.

I retired from an IT career several years ago. I’ve been involved in other Community Independent campaigns and voluntary endeavours since then. I have also been active in anti-gambling harm, particularly of poker machines in my LGA.”
