Last week we met and reviewed how the Nanny Share has been travelling and what the future viability looks like.

For now we have made the very hard decision to pause our Nanny Share as there are not enough resources to keep it ticking along smoothly.

If you are looking for amazing Nanny Care providers, we can highly recommend these amazing educators - flyers attached 💖

Want to help? We need a venue that can meet ACECQA regulations, ideally a community space; and we need seed funding, in-kind or financial support for establishment costs and rent. A venue will allow us to support educators to become Family Day Care providers in a shared setting, meaning they can support each other, share resources, and the admin load. Being registered means the educators can earn a livable income and parents can access CCS and are paying a manageable fee - essentials in a cost of living crisis.

Thank you all for your support and belief in our community Nanny Share, it has been a magical experience and we feel so lucky to have been part of this, stay tuned as we work towards the long term viability of quality Steiner-led early childhood care 🙏

Appreciation post 💛

We want to share our heartfelt thanks to all the good folks who have contributed so generously within our Wattle Glow community as we work to stay together and make a private nanny share possible 🌿

This has truly been a collective effort.

✨ Jasmine and Rika have donated their early learning expertise in setting up the space, as well as early learning resources including art materials, wool and crayons, to support the gentle Steiner rhythms our children love.
✨ Elise from has so generously donated beautiful Steiner-inspired resources, including hand carved wooden bowls and spoons, and the bright kite paper we used for raindrop making to reflect the very wet weather vibes right now.
✨ Katie, Jenna and Jess have given countless hours and expertise to documentation, strategic planning, community organising and media communications.
✨ Rod has donated his time, materials and skills to make the space safe and secure, from baby gates to upgrading the balustrades on the covered deck.
✨ Lindsay from Tidy Property Services pressure washed and cleaned the driveway to make it safer for children and families. An extraordinary act of care.
✨ Steph has generously shared her knowledge and advice around private nanny shares.
✨ And is standing alongside us with aligned values and wholehearted support.

It is going to take a village (and more!) to recreate the childcare we want and need for our families. Wattle Glow was always more than a place. We are a community that shows up for one another, and we are so grateful for everyone involved 🌿💛

This week we are live with our new Wattle Glow nanny share in Lawson, and our hearts are so full!

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible. While we continue working towards our longer-term goal of a Steiner/Waldorf inspired childcare centre, we are staying together with a private nanny share initiative, and it already feels next-level special.

We have wonderful educators, a beautiful space - a huge thank you to the Kinder family for hosting in your gorgeous home - and children having the BEST time learning and playing together. The familiar rhythms we hold so dear are back in our children’s lives, and younger siblings are getting their first experiences of Wattle Glow care 💛

❤️ We love Rika! Today we trialled our informal nanny-share - a small but powerful step forward for our community childcare collective.

Since the closure of Wattle Glow long day care / preschool in Hazelbrook, we’ve been working to stay together and rebuild, with a long-term vision for a community-led, nature-based, Steiner/Waldorf-inspired play centre. The kind of care we want for our children, and for each other.

In the meantime, we’re living in a childcare desert. In the mid-mountains, there are around four children for every available childcare place, and many families simply don’t have enough care to meet their work and life commitments.

So while we mobilise, organise, and gather support for our long day care/preschool plans, we’re doing what communities do best: creating care together. Nanny-shares are one way we’re holding each other through this transition - its practical, relational, and grounded in trust.

Sadly, we couldn’t save Wattle Glow Long Day Care aka Blue Mountains Steiner Preschool, which will close this week. We are all so hurt. It’s our community, our village, where our children are cared for safely with love and respect. It’s a huge blow to childcare in the Blue Mountains. Our wonderful educators are so special. Wattle Glow is too wonderful to lose. We are committed to working with educators on solutions that keep our Wattle Glow childcare community together. Thank you to everyone who has supported our campaign. We see you. Your solidarity matters. Continue to stand with us! Watch this space for next steps and ways to support us and the educators! We need you all with us for the Wattle Glow UP ✊💛

Thank you to everyone who has signed our community statement calling on the Blue Mountains Steiner School Council to save Wattle Glow Long Day Care / Preschool (), and to support us to take it on and run the service independently, co-located on the school site.

Council - are you listening?

Our community loves and values Wattle Glow, and deeply respects its team of outstanding educators. We are doing everything we can to save our preschool, not just for our children, but for future generations. We believe that we can and will run Wattle Glow successfully and sustainably 💛

We remain hopeful for a positive outcome today. Please join us for an emergency public meeting this evening (Thursday 11 Dec, 5:30 pm–7:30 pm) at Mid‑Mountains Community Centre, 9 New St, Lawson NSW 2783.

Our preschool should NOT be facing closure. This should NOT be happening, ESPECIALLY in a childcare desert already burdened with long waitlists!

Since being informed in late October that Wattle Glow Long Day Care/Preschool () may close at the end of the year due to still-undisclosed financial reasons, our community has mobilised. We are doing everything we can to save our much-loved preschool and to call for transparency and genuine consultation with the School Council to resolve this situation. All this never ending waiting is having a detrimental impact on everyone on the receiving end of this threatened closure, especially for our wonderful educators who are facing great uncertainly and potential unemployment 💔

While we continue to wait for the School Council’s decision, we invite you to join us for an emergency public meeting:
