Today's glimmer:
๐ฆ"Can we make a nest?"๐ฆ
This week, our very creative and inquisitive preschoolers created their very own bird's nest. After supplying her with a basket, one of our children Eloise and her friends Koby, Alice, Elise,
Brandon, Christopher, Pravita and Ameliah worked together collecting various natural materials and other resources that they thought a bird would use to make a nest, adding
them all to a basket. They even found some shiny rubbish that had blown in from the school, adding it to their nest.
Once they had finished gathering all the bits they needed to create their nest, it was brought inside, so we could have a group discussion about it.
Educators asked-
"What makes a nest?"
Harvey-"Birds!"
Eloise-"Sticks, twigs and flowers."
Alice-"Shiny things."
What does a bird use a nest for?
Koby-"Eggs."
We also talked about baby birds, why they can't fly, why do they live in the nest? We discussed what birds eat and why the mummy birds have to get the baby birds
food.
To further extend childre's thinking and oral language, we then read the book 'Bower Bird Blues.'
To finish off a wonderful inquiry on nests, Educators added a Mummy Kookaburra to the nest and then all the preschoolers were given an egg to add, for Mummy Kookaburra
to look after.
We can't wait to see where our inquiry on nests will go next week! Maybe we will try and find some real life nests to examine, or even try a spot of bird watching!
Happy Thursday Everyone!
