🐻 We are Beary excited for week 3! 🐻
Our preschool is beginning an inquiry into Goldilocks and the Three Bears, using this familiar story as a starting point for exploring storytelling, imagination, relationships and mathematical thinking.
Sharing high-quality picture books supports children’s vocabulary, listening and comprehension while nurturing a love of reading. Rich illustrations and repeated phrases invite children to join in, predict what might happen next and discuss the characters’ feelings and choices. Revisiting the story supports children to recall and sequence events and develop confidence in retelling stories in their own words.
Role play provides opportunities for children to bring the story to life, take on different characters and create their own interpretations. As children negotiate roles, share props and develop storylines together, they can practise cooperation, communication and problem-solving. Considering how Baby Bear might feel also opens conversations about empathy, asking permission and respecting others’ belongings.
The story offers meaningful opportunities to explore numeracy through counting, matching, ordering and comparing sizes, alongside concepts such as hot and cold, hard and soft, and big, medium and small. As the inquiry develops, children’s questions and ideas will guide further investigations and playful learning experiences.
