Mooloolah River Landcare

Mooloolah River Landcare MRL is an active Community group dedicated to the natural environment of the Sunshine Coast. Support us by becoming a member of the group.

“Proudly Supported by the Sunshine Coast Council’s grants program’, Mooloolah River Landcare is home to over 25,000 native plants that we sell inexpensively to the community and use for our numerous tree plants around the coast. MRL have planted over 1 million trees over the last 8 years and will continue to support our rivers, creeks and wildlife on the Sunny Coast. If anyone would like to come i

nto the nursery and help with potting up they are most welcome. We also have a water monitoring group.

Make sure you visit Jim's native bee hive displays to learn all about these amazing creatures at the Bug Day Out 2026 at our Big Open Day this Saturday.

Jim is a LONG time volunteer at Mooloolah River Landcare and our resident butterfly and bee man. He cares strongly about protecting the environment and managing weeds such as cats claw creeper and takes action by observing and documenting local bees and butterflies; planting native butterfly host plants (and encouraging his neighbours to do the same); volunteering in our biocontrol facility and nursery; and bringing secateurs with him on his caravan trips to manage cats claw outbreaks he findings along his travels.

If you are thinking of adopting a spiney leaf stick insect this Saturday at the Bug Day Out it is a good time to start looking around your neighbourhood for food plants. These guys have been raised on guava leaves but they also like eucalyptus leaves.

We will have a limited amount of enclosures available (16) so head straight over to the stick insects in the beginning of the day to make sure you don't miss out. The enclosures will cost $35 and include 2 stick insects. We also have some stick insects available if you already have an enclosure (once again, head over early to make sure you don't miss out- we will be happy to hold them for you till you are ready to go).

These gentle creatures are so fascinating so come by and visit them (even if you aren't planning on adopting one). :)

BIG OPEN DAY brings you more great KIDS CRAFT ACTIVITIES!🎨

These are ideal for keeping your little people happy. Pull up a chair, grab yourself a chunk of clay and get creating!

Always popular, the Seed/ Clay Creature craft is a hands on activity, back again this year and FREE for all. This year we're also setting up a nature inspired Make Your own Leaf Crown 👑🍁🍂 table.

Check out some of the wonderfully creative creatures from previous years. We LOVE seeing what kids come up with - your imagination is the limit. What will you create this year???? 🤔

Seed pods are such an amazing resource - their textures and shapes are so diverse and unique - exactly like our native plants!

Lock it in! Sat 6th June from 9am!!!
