Levelling the Deck Everyone deserves to swim.

Behind every role is a person.

Whether you're coaching on pool deck, teaching a child's first lesson, managing a swim school or leading a team, you spend so much of your time supporting others.

This R U OK? Day, take a moment to check in with the people around you and don't forget to check in with yourself too.

A simple conversation, a genuine question or a few minutes to listen can make more of a difference than you realise.

Because a stronger aquatic industry starts with looking after the people who make it possible.

Every conversation matters when it comes to child safety.

This week marks National Child Protection Week, reminding us that creating safe environments for children is everyone's responsibility. This year's theme, "Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversation to Action," encourages us to turn our commitment into meaningful action that helps children feel safe, heard and supported.

As an aquatic industry, we all play an important role in creating child-safe environments. We encourage all coaches, teachers, swim schools and aquatic facilities to revisit the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and reflect on how they are embedded within your organisation every day.

Together, we can help ensure every child enjoys a safe, positive and supportive experience in and around the water.

Racism isn't someone else's problem. It's everyone's responsibility.

One of the strongest messages we took away from the CMSport Forum was that creating inclusive sporting environments requires collective action.

If we wait until an incident occurs, we've already missed an opportunity.

The real work happens beforehand, building welcoming cultures, educating our people and creating environments where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

Levelling the deck starts with all of us.

Progress over perfection.

That simple message stayed with us long after the 2026 CMSport Forum: Racism Doesn’t Belong In Our Game conference ended.

Creating inclusive clubs won't always be neat or easy. Sometimes we'll get it wrong. Sometimes the conversations will be uncomfortable.

But doing something is better than doing nothing.

Every conversation.
Every policy.
Every small improvement.

Together, they create meaningful change.

Some events leave you with more questions than answers, in the best possible way.

The CMSport Forum: Racism Doesn't Belong in Our Game challenged us to think differently about the role we all play in creating inclusive sporting environments.

One of my biggest takeaways? Progress over perfection. We don't have to have all the answers today, but we all have a responsibility to keep learning, listening and taking action.

Thank you to the Centre for Multicultural Sport and everyone who shared their stories so openly. The conversations don't stop here.

You may never know the difference you made.

A smile.

An adapted activity.

A few extra moments.

Small acts of inclusion create lifelong memories.

🧡 Never underestimate your impact as a coach or teacher.

Many organisations say,

"Everyone is welcome."

But do people feel welcome?

Belonging isn't created by a sign on the wall.

It's created by the experience people have when they walk through the door.

Not every barrier has a ramp.

Some are:

• Confusing information.
• Bright lights.
• Loud spaces.
• Assumptions.

The biggest barriers are often the ones we can't see.

"How can we best support you today?"

No assumptions.

No judgement.

Just curiosity.

Sometimes people don't participate because they don't feel welcome.

Sometimes they don't know they belong.

Sometimes barriers exist that we never see.

The question isn't just who's here?

It's who's missing?

💙 Inclusion starts by noticing who's not in the room.
