🌻🌱 Murnong CG Weekly Update 🌱🌻

We are welcoming the steady rain that has arrived this week. Nothing is better at getting our new seedlings’ roots established and healthy.
However, that also means an increased activity of slugs and snails. So we ask that while you are grabbing some spinach, silverbeet, lettuce and peas for dinner, please keep on the lookout for these little pests and remove them from our plants. Thank you!

We’ll see you at Chilwell Community Garden this Saturday for the last of our 3 Community Garden Joint Workshops! Get ready to learn about bush foods!

Did you know that, thanks to the Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, Murnong Community Garden has earned $400 this year? And it’s all thanks to our wonderful community members!

You can help by leaving your eligible cans, bottles and containers in our collection box+bag found in our shed. Thank you to everybody who has already donated this past year! It means a lot to our garden. 🌻

🌻🌱 Murnong CG Weekly Update 🌱🌻

After our unseasonably warm weather last week, we are excited to see the growth our garden will show during this recently deluge of rain! Our tomatoes are establishing well and we hope the same will happen with our new cucumbers, zucchini and pumpkins. As more winter vegetables are harvested, we will have more summer plants to put in during the coming weeks! There are still plenty of sugar snap peas to feast on!

Note that our working bee times have reverted to our typical Summer schedule. Join us:

No workshop this October as we will join the last of our 3 Community Garden Joint Workshops on November 7th at Chilwell Community Garden. See you there to learn about bush foods!

Murnong Community Garden AGM is happening tomorrow evening! Perfect time to come down to Cloverdale Community Centre and make your opinion heard while we celebrate another year of achievements. All committee positions will also be opened so this is the best time to put your hand up and be part of an amazing non-for-profit.

Working bee this afternoon 3-5 pm. We are planting all of our spring crops so need lots of hands on deck. If you have a wiper snipper you could bring that and of course a snack and drink for after. See you there.

🌱 Join us Saturday 29th August, 10am, to learn about Circular Economy 101 with Jess Hobbs from Waste Free Events.

🌱 There is no ticketing system or reservations, just come by Murnong Community Garden for a workshop that is sure to be insightful and educational!

🥦 🥬 Planning for the hot season is well under way! Thank you to those who came and added their experience and opinions to the collective. We welcome anyone else interested in veggie planning to let us know and join us for the next meeting on September 2nd, 5pm.

We also harvested and split our beautiful cauliflowers and broccolis between volunteers. And there are more still growing, so stop on by!

✨🌱 Expression of interest 🌱✨

Murnong CG are looking for volunteers who are interesting in joining our subcommittee surrounding Plant Planning.

This involves getting together a few times a year to plan out what we are going to grow for the next season, as well as figuring out how to implement our decisions. Volunteers may be asked their opinion on certain crops, or asked to collect seedlings from a nursery, or organise our planting working bees.

No experience is necessary- just an interest in vegetable gardening!

Our next subcommittee meeting is Saturday 22nd August, 2pm. If you want to know more, join us at Murnong then while we plan our Summer crop! 🍅 🥔 🥒 🌻

We are running another of our awesome Bunning Sausage Sizzle fundraiser events to continue funding the garden.
We are looking for volunteers cook the sausages and take payment on the day
When: Sunday October 4th
Time: 2 hour shifts

- 8-10am
- 10am-12pm
- 12-2pm
- 2-4pm
