Bootstraps - For Those Who Have Laced Up A Boot In Service To Our Country

Bootstraps - For Those Who Have Laced Up A Boot In Service To Our Country Our facility in Gatton serves as a gathering place for veterans of all ages and members of the community to come together and craft beautiful leather items.

It fosters a supportive environment where creativity flourishes and connections are made. Located in the scenic Lockyer Valley town of Gatton, we offer leather work classes which are provided to support veterans and the community dealing with mental health and physical injuries. These classes aim to help participants relax, build a supportive network, and reconnect with others and to assist in the prevention of su***de.

"The Saddle Academy" - A venture that we are trying to initiate here in the Lockyer Valley, but we need financial assistance & support to get this up and running.

The Saddle Academy is a specialised training initiative developed by Bootstraps, focused on preserving traditional saddle-making skills while creating real pathways to skilled trade work.

Participants won’t just sit in a classroom, they’ll learn through hands-on experience, mentorship, & real production work. The program is designed to: Teach practical, transferable skills; Create pride in craftsmanship; Support sustainable, long-term outcomes

The Saddle Academy will operate as a paid traineeship, with participants working toward a formal qualification, Certificate III in Leather Production (Saddlery). This ensures the skills gained are recognised, transferable well beyond the program itself, create real opportunities for learning, employment & connection to meaningful work. This is education with a purpose.

To bring the Saddle Academy to life, our goal is to raise $1.5 million to establish and operate it as a long-term, sustainable training program.

Reaching this goal will enable: A fully fitted, dedicated workshop; Ongoing program delivery; Long-term investment in equipment & facilities; Broader access to training opportunities.

With the support of investors, donors, & our wider community, we’re confident we can make this vision a reality & kick it off this year. If you’d like to be part of building something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you.

Let’s preserve the craft. Let’s create opportunity. Let’s build the future of Australian saddlery.

💙 The Road to Better Mental Health Starts with One Step

Mental health isn't a destination, it's a journey. Some days the road is smooth, and other days it can feel like an uphill climb. What's important is knowing that you don't have to travel it alone.

At Bootstraps, we understand that confidence, purpose, connection, and routine can play a vital role in supporting positive mental health. Through hands-on creative therapy in teaching leathercraft and providing a supportive and safe space, we help people manage their PTSD and mental health so they do not feel alone, but worthwhile and build not only their abilities but also their self-belief.

Whether it's learning something new, connecting with others, achieving personal goals, or simply having a reason to get up and challenge yourself each day, every small step can make a difference.

Remember, seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Together, we can create pathways to opportunity, resilience, and wellbeing.

💙 Be kind to yourself.
💙 Reach out when you need support.
💙 Celebrate every step forward, no matter how small.

Because every journey to better mental health begins with a single step.

🛠️✨ Our Certificate II in Leather Production students have been hard at work this week learning one of the most important skills in leathercraft, keeping workshop tools sharp, clean, and well maintained.

A sharp tool not only makes the job easier but also helps create cleaner cuts, better finishes, and safer working practices. Learning to care for their tools is an essential part of becoming a skilled leatherworker, and our students have embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.

Of course, it wasn't all work and no play! 🎂🥳 They also took some time out to celebrate a special birthday.

Happy Birthday, Dakota! We hope you had a fantastic day and enjoyed celebrating.

🤪🎉 WACKY WEDNESDAY! 🎉🤪

This week's joke was supplied by our Leather Instructor...

Did you know that leather is "rated" based on its texture?
Cows with abundant water sources typically have softer hides, rated "A".
But hides from cows living in hot and dry climates are typically..."D" Hide-Rated! 😂

We think he should definitely stick to teaching!🤣

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Today we'd like to give a very warm welcome to Col, an ex-serviceman 🇦🇺 who came in today and started his leathercraft journey with us at Bootstraps!

Col first visited us last week with a simple request – could we sew some patches onto his leather motorcycle jacket? Of course, we were happy to help. After seeing what we do here, he was so impressed that he said he wanted to come back and learn leathercraft himself. 🤗

True to his word, Col rolled back into the centre today in his wheelchair, which fits perfectly at one of our workbenches! 👍He got straight into his first project of making a motorcycle tool roll.

Col, we are thrilled you found us and we hope you enjoy learning the craft. We can't wait to see your finished tool roll and watch your skills develop along the way.

💙 Supporting Our Veterans, Families & Community 💙

At Bootstraps, our mission goes beyond leathercraft and creativity – it’s about healing, connection, and hope. We’re proud to support veterans, their families, and members of our community living with PTSD through our creative therapy classes.

By working with their hands, building skills, and expressing creativity, participants find calm, focus, and a sense of achievement. Most importantly, these classes help to combat isolation, reduce the risk of su***de, and bring people together in a safe and supportive space. 🙏

Every project made is more than just leatherwork – it’s a step toward recovery, resilience, and brighter days ahead. ✨

Together, we’re crafting not only beautiful items, but also stronger lives. 💪

🌟 Mental Health Monday 🌟

Today, remember the power of small victories in your mental health journey. 🌿💪

Progress isn't always about big leaps forward. Often, it's in the small steps you take each day – getting out of bed on a tough morning, finishing a simple task, taking a deep breath, or choosing to rest when needed. 🌱

Every little victory matters. Be proud of yourself for showing up today, no matter what that looks like. 💛

Remember that help is available 24/7, someone is always there to listen.
