As we draw the curtains on our most ambitious project to date, Gatt & Co., Our Heartland would like to thank the cheer squad who knew how important the work was and just kept showing up. It seems timely for a little reflection.
We set out to draw community together, to build and strengthen connections between residents, so that no-one felt alone, no-one was a stranger, and everyone could find their way to a sense of self, wholeness and belonging, without having to pay someone to care.
There are so many opportunities available to us as a community, and they will be achieved when we recognise that WE are the community, and we all have a role to contribute to the whole, in our OWN unique way. Imagine our community then! Connected, vibrant, playful and caring. We can’t leave it to a few people and expect them to build a community we all love. Naively, which makes us very thankful for the lesson, we thought we might be able to rally community, but in reality we are still just a few people.
We know now that the community either does not recognise their deep need for greater connection or cannot find the capacity to develop it. We are so grateful for the adventure and remain determined to leave no community member behind. We realise that trying to build community networks for others is inauthentic, so we will continue to build our own communities until they have the capacity to change the world. Feel free to come along for the ride. You are all welcome.
