Hi Indoga fam, let’s meet our next MVP of the year!

She is a Ph.D. student, a mother, and a lecturer at Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. Meet Martia Rani Tacharina (Martia).

Driven by her lifelong passion for nature and animals, Martia is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Bat Virology and Immunology at the UQ Veterinary School through the prestigious LPDP Scholarship.

What attracted her to UQ is its strong expertise in wildlife and conservation, not to mention its dedicated Bat Hospital!

Let’s get to know her beyond academia. Martia loves traveling and cooking—a perfect combination! She initially started cooking out of necessity, but eventually discovered that she genuinely enjoys it.

And that’s not all. Here are some of her achievements and experiences so far:

✨ Published a high-impact research paper during her Ph.D. journey.
✨ Completed a two-week field placement at the Bat Hospital.
✨ Became a member of the Australasian Bat Society (ABS), Australian Society for Virology (ASV), and World Society for Virology (WSV).
✨ Undertook a six-week intensive bioinformatics training program and research visit at The University of Nottingham, UK.
✨ Participated in various training programs offered by UQ and QCIF, including workshops on Galaxy, Python, and R.

Before completing her Ph.D., Martia hopes to fulfill one item on her bucket list: embarking on a safari camping adventure around Queensland in a campervan.

Let’s wish her the very best in achieving this dream before graduation! She is truly one of the remarkable members of the Gatton campus community who deserves recognition and appreciation.

Today, Kopikir held a panel discussion on Food Development in Indonesia at UQ Gatton. The session was moderated by Hardo Manik (PhD student, Business School), with Arif Syaifuddin (PhD student, Agribusiness) as speaker - presenting insights on current food issues in Indonesia, supported by relevant policies and data on food availability and the agricultural sector over the past decade.
