Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day!

Today we celebrate the wonderful early childhood educators across the Lockyer Valley who play such an important role in helping our littlest community members play, learn, grow and thrive!

At Thriving Lockyer Kids, we know it takes a whole community working together to give children the best possible start, and our early childhood educators are such an important part of that village 💛

Thank you for the relationships you build, the safe and nurturing spaces you create, and for working alongside families and our broader early years community to support every child to thrive!

Also a big thank you to Nicci and Marina who run the Lockyer Valley Early Years Network, this a vital piece of the puzzle to support our Early Years workforce, as well as our Children and Families.

Why do we ask you to grab a ticket for Under 5’s when the event is FREE?

It might seem like one extra thing to do, but those little tickets actually help us in some pretty big ways! 💙

When families register, it helps us:

✨ Give our stallholders and activity providers an idea of how many little people to prepare for, so they can bring enough resources and supplies.

✨ Gather some valuable local insights through our optional registration questions. For those who choose to answer, this information helps us better understand our families and can help shape future work, activities and supports across the Lockyer Valley.

✨ Show the demand for events like this. Every registration helps us demonstrate that local families want, need and value opportunities that bring children, families, services and our community together.

Having the numbers behind us gives us stronger evidence when we advocate for funding, investment, services and more opportunities for children and families in our region. 🙌

So even though Under 5’s is free, please grab your ticket if you’re planning to come along, your registration is more than just a ticket. It helps us plan better, learn more and advocate louder for our local kids and families 💚

Already got yours? Thank you!
Planning to come? Make sure you’re counted!

A big thanks to the following sponsors, volunteers and supporters for making Under 5s possible 🥰

Another great session of Surviving & Thriving today at Laidley Community Centre, with this week focusing on women’s health and pelvic floor wellbeing.

There was a great mix of education, question time and some practical pelvic floor exercises, creating a relaxed space for mums to learn more about their bodies, ask questions and pick up some helpful tips along the way 💜

A big thanks to Megan from West Moreton Health for coming along, we really appreciate the continued support!

Ready for a little outdoor adventure these school holidays?

Tracks & Slacks is back and all about getting kids outside, moving their bodies, testing their balance and having a go! With slacklining and plenty of opportunity for outdoor play, it’s a fun way to build confidence, coordination and connection 💚

Even better, the sessions are facilitated by a local parent from Willow and Jacob Outdoor Adventure Education - bringing knowledge, experience and a passion for helping kids build confidence in the outdoors 🌿

There will be activities for our under 5s thanks to Janella from the Early Connections Program at Laidley Community Centre

No experience needed, just come along, give it a go and have some fun!

Sometimes the littlest voices say it best…
“Thank you for fruit!” 🍊

Fruitful Futures has been helping get fresh fruit and vegetables into the hands of local children through our playgroups and schools - and this little thank you is a pretty special reminder of who it’s all for.

As we look towards 2027, our aim is not only to keep Fruitful Futures going, but hopefully grow it too 🌱

We’d love to connect with local businesses, growers, producers and community members who might be able to help through:

🍓 Financial sponsorship or donations to continue the fresh fruit and vegetable platters supplied to our local playgroups by The Pantry. Wherever possible, we want to keep investing locally and supporting the family-run businesses that support our community.

🍎 Support to continue and expand our Fruitful Futures fruit boxes, with the hope of reaching even more local schools in 2027.

🥕 Fresh or seasonal produce donations from our wonderful local growers and producers to help stretch the initiative even further.

Fruitful Futures is a great example of what can happen when we support local, invest local and work together for local kids 💚

A huge thank you to Foodbank Queensland and The Pantry - jakandmo for helping us make Fruitful Futures possible this year.

Whether you can contribute a little or a lot, every bit of support helps us put more fresh food into more little hands 🍉

If you’d like to help us keep Fruitful Futures growing in 2027, we’d love to hear from you!

A big milestone hit yesterday, with 500 Pre-Prep Bags packed and getting ready to make their way to future Prep students across the Lockyer Valley!💚

This project was brought to life by Thriving Lockyer Kids as part of our commitment to strengthening all the important transition points in a child and family’s journey - including that big step into school.

Importantly, the contents of the bags were co-designed with the Lockyer Valley Early Years Network, drawing on the knowledge and experience of the people who work alongside our children every day. Each resource has been intentionally included to encourage skills such as fine motor development, pencil grip, early literacy and a love of reading, creativity and play-based learning, all through simple activities children and families can enjoy together. As well as the added bonus of a reusable wetbag for swimming, or to protect those precious library books!

Each bag provides a consistent base, while still giving individual schools the opportunity to make it their own by adding a personalised social story and school-specific information. This can help children become familiar with their new school, know a little more about what to expect and support a positive transition into Prep. A big shout out to the 17 schools who have jumped on board, your commitment to supporting transitions is wonderful, and we hope you love the packs just as much as we loved creating them for you 😊

A huge thank you to Janella from the Laidley Community Centre, who generously gave her time to help us pack and also donated the playdough included in the bags 🧡

We also had some fantastic helpers from Gatton State School, who popped down and got straight to work!

And a special shout-out to Chappy Janine from SU Australia, who supports Mount Whitestone State School, Ma Ma Creek State School and Mount Sylvia State School. She happened to be visiting at just the right time and happily jumped in to help us pack crayons and chalk 🖍 we love those spontaneous moments of community teamwork! 🙌

Thank you also to Parentline Qld + NT for donating magnets featuring beautiful messages for families to take home, and Lockyer Valley Libraries for donating a First 5 Forever magnet as well, that can later be used as a frame for that first day of school photo 🥰

This project is a great example of what can happen when we bring together local knowledge, schools, services and community around a shared goal - supporting our children to be on track and ready to learn, while making one of their biggest early transitions feel just that little bit easier.

500 bags. 500 children. One big community behind them as they take their next step towards Prep 🎒

That’s a wrap on our Tiny Tummies series of our Nourish & Thrive Nutrition Program!

This week, our families enjoyed another cooking demo, whipping up some delicious pesto & parmesan and pizza puff pastry scrolls - simple, toddler-friendly ideas to recreate at home.

Lots of great topics covered such as picky eating, the importance of continuing to offer previously refused foods without pressure and simple ways to help keep little tummies comfortable to avoid or better support your toddler dealing with constipation.

A great reminder that toddler eating can change from day to day, and every exposure to a food still counts.

A big thank you to Julia from Tidal Guidance for another informative session, all our families who joined us and to Foodbank Queensland for partnering with us to provide this amazing opportunity locally.

🥪 Next up in our Nourish & Thrive series - Lunchbox Legends!

Come along for practical ideas and inspiration to take some of the stress out of packing lunchboxes.

Today we welcomed Kirsty from First 5 Forever at Lockyer Valley Libraries to our Surviving & Thriving group held at Laidley Community Centre. Kirsty joked that she might be “preaching to the converted” as she was surrounded by plenty of familiar faces, but for us, that was actually a really lovely thing to hear.

It reaffirmed the wonderful work our local First 5 Forever team does and the important role our libraries play as one of those first, trusted soft-entry points for families. A welcoming place where parents can connect, children can play and learn, and relationships with community supports can begin naturally.

📚 One of the great takeaways from today was exploring how the 3a Abecedarian Approach can be incorporated into something as simple as reading with bub, making story time more interactive, responsive and connected, and supporting those important early communication and learning foundations.

The group also got to experience a run-through of a typical Wriggle & Rhyme session before settling in for some morning tea and, as always, plenty of good conversations amongst themselves. 🥰

But one of our favourite moments came from the mums themselves…

“So, what’s next when this program finishes?”

It might seem like a simple question, but it tells us something really important.

Parents want opportunities to keep connecting. To keep showing up. To keep building friendships and creating their own village beyond a structured program.

And apparently that village might just involve… Bubs & Bingo! 👶🙋🏼‍♀️

The mums have already started throwing around ideas for their next catch-up, and we’re absolutely here for it!

So, Bubs & Bingo - would you be keen?
Drop us a comment below if you’d jump on board! 👇

Our littlest foodies (and their grown-ups!) started our Tiny Tummies series of Nourish & Thrive today, exploring food and nutrition, including some practical tips to help support little immune systems - especially for those navigating all the extra bugs that can come with childcare and the winter season.

The group got to enjoy a cooking demo and taste-test some delicious loaded choccie + veggie muffins, which went down pretty well!

And I’d forgotten just how much this stage keeps you on your toes! We had some very curious little kiddies today, keen to explore, play and get amongst absolutely everything.

A big thank you once again to Julia from Tidal Guidance for sharing her knowledge and passion with our local parents, and to Foodbank Queensland for helping is support food equity within the Lockyer Valley. We can’t wait to see what the net week of Tiny Tummies brings!
