🐴✨ CanterCon 2026 – Learning, Inspiration & New Ideas! ✨🐴

At the end of August, our amazing coaching team headed to Melbourne for the inaugural CanterCon Coaching Conference — and what an incredible opportunity it was!

CanterCon was a partnership between Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia, Equestrian Australia and Pony Club Australia, bringing together coaches from equestrian disciplines across Australia for two full days of learning, sharing and inspiration.

📚 There was so much to learn!
Our coaches explored topics including:
🐎 Coaching across the pathway
🏆 Pathways to high performance
🐴 Off The Track (OTT) horses
🧠 Concussion recognition
❤️ Horse health, including gastric ulcers
🌾 Horse nutrition and feeding
…and so much more!

The conference featured an amazing line-up of Australian and international presenters, including Triple Olympian Vicky Roycroft, Fellow of the British Horse Society Sam York, Co-Director of Equitation Science International Dr Andrew McLean, Olympian Amanda Ross and two-time Paralympian Emma Booth, along with many other inspiring presenters and industry experts.

🌟 We were incredibly fortunate to have all three of our qualified coaches — Tayla, Lois and Julie — attend the conference.

Their commitment to continually developing their knowledge and skills is something we are incredibly proud of. The opportunity to attend CanterCon was made possible through the dedication of our coaches, along with assistance from the Community Assistance Partnership Fund provided through the Shire of Murray
and Alcoa Australia.

🙏 A huge thank you to our wonderful schools, riders and families for your patience and understanding while our coaches were away. We know that changes to regular riding times can be disruptive, and we truly appreciate everyone who worked with us to make this opportunity possible.
We can't wait to put some of the new ideas, knowledge and inspiration into practice at RDA Murray Mandurah! 💙🐴

RDA Murray Mandurah currently has a small number of vacancies available. These positions are limited to riders who meet specific age requirements and are available at the designated times.

While we do maintain a waitlist, individuals on the waitlist seem to not be suitable for these particular vacancies.

An essential part of the running lessons at RDA Murray Mandurah is our wonderful herd of horses, and an essential part of caring for them is ensuring their health and welfare.

We are incredibly fortunate to have Murray Veterinary Services looking after our horses. Each year, they visit the centre to carry out our horses' annual dental checks. As part of these health checks, we also screen for sand accumulation in the gut—which can be especially important at this time of year as our paddocks recover from the West Australian summer.

During their visit, our horses also receive their annual vaccinations, our geldings have their sheaths cleaned, and we aim to complete a faecal egg count for every horse.

Every one of these checks plays an important role in keeping our horses healthy, comfortable, and happy so they can continue providing the incredible experiences they do for our riders.

This year, with two veterinarians, a student veterinarian, and the support of our amazing volunteer handlers, we were able to complete all of our horses' health checks in just one afternoon.

A huge thank you to Murray Veterinary Services for your ongoing expertise, care, and support. We truly appreciate everything you do for our herd. You are amazing! 🐴💙

RDA Murray Mandurah is incredibly proud to congratulate Ian Gillon on being named the fortnightly winner of the SportWest and Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport Local Sporting Hero Award.

This recognition is richly deserved and reflects Ian's outstanding commitment to our community. For more than 20 years, Ian has generously volunteered with RDA Murray Mandurah, becoming an invaluable member of our team.

A true all-rounder, Ian can turn his hand to almost anything. From leading horses during our riding sessions to repairing equipment, fixing facilities, tackling maintenance jobs, and solving problems, there is very little Ian can't do. His practical skills, reliability, and willingness to help wherever needed have made a lasting impact on our centre and everyone involved.

Ian's quiet dedication, generosity, and tireless support embody the true spirit of volunteering. We are incredibly grateful for everything he continues to do for our riders, horses, volunteers, and the wider RDA Murray Mandurah community.

Congratulations, Ian, on this well-deserved honour. We couldn't think of a more deserving recipient of the Local Sporting Hero Award!

Great news as of 1st July wine and Spirit bottles can be recycled for 10c.

If you would like to held us with the welfare of our horses, you can return 10c containers and donate the money to our centre using our scheme ID C10303998.

Thursday last week our centre had it's centre accreditation. Thank you to National Accessor Julie Osborne for making the trip down from her centre Capricorn in Pinjar to conduct our accessment.
