Something special is happening in Peel 💚

On Wednesday 10 June, Peel Community Foundation is bringing together community members, local businesses, donors and supporters to celebrate what happens when a community decides to invest in its own future.

Together for Tomorrow - Pinjarra Giving was built on a simple belief: that local people, investing locally, can create lasting change for young people in our region.

Over the past year we've listened to the community, engaged young people and partnered with local organisations to fund projects that strengthen youth wellbeing, capability and connection in Pinjarra. On June 10 we celebrate the inaugural grant recipients and the people who made it possible.

This is more than an event. Hear exciting news about the support and impact PCF is making in the wider Peel region. Be part of building a culture of giving in Peel and to see firsthand what community investment looks like when it's done locally.

📅 Wednesday 10 June
🕓 4:00pm - 6:00pm
📍 Café Chérie, Pinjarra
🎟️ Free - register at https://events.humanitix.com/together-for-tomorrow-building-futures-in-peel

Whether you're a community member, local business, service provider or simply someone who cares about Peel's future, we'd love to see you there.

What if we stopped looking to the recent past for answers, and started looking much further back?

That question came from a session our Chair Kristie Tonkin heard at the Community Foundations Australia Forum last week. Co-CEO of The Australian Centre for Social Innovation, shared this quote to bring the wisdom of Aboriginal people into the conversation; "All time past is present in every moment."

In a room full of people working on some of the hardest problems facing Australian communities, that landed with weight.

Three days in Naarm Melbourne at the largest national gathering of community foundations yet, with over 200 people from every state and territory, alongside international guests - enabled time out to consider the forces reshaping communities everywhere: rising inequality, the pulling back of global aid, the fracturing of institutions people once trusted. Yet, the energy in the room was not despair. Kristie described it as "a warm ember, just waiting to ignite. Imagine an astronaut's view - little sparks of people doing good everywhere, and a warm glow coming from the space they were in."

PCF Treasurer Thomas Huberli, came back with something practical to share "a reminder to be brave and take some calculated risks as a foundation. With a strong, giving and supportive network, we don't need to do it alone and we don't need to reinvent the wheel."

Australia now has 72 community foundations, up from 38 just three years ago. More than $1 billion is being stewarded locally. The movement is growing because communities are highly motivated to shape their own futures.

Peel is part of that, and we are inviting you to help build our momentum.

At the start of this month, our board members Liz Dare and Nia Lumley had the privilege of attending the opening of the Pinjarra Community Garden Native Walk Trail.

It was heartwarming to be welcomed to Country with dancing and a smoking ceremony, and to hear from the committee about the inspiration behind the garden design representing the way people moved through the land from the forest to the ocean, following the water and the seasonal flourishing of plants.

The landscape design and integration of public art is truly amazing, and the morning tea had that authentic country hospitality vibe shining through.

Congratulations to everyone involved, including artists Danielle Pollard Muralist, Jon Humes studio and Suzie Gunn.

Community giving, your way 💚

We’re so lucky to live in a place where people truly care about one another. But how do we make sure that spirit of giving lasts for the next hundred years?

The PCF Future Fund is our way of "seeding" the future. When you give to this fund, you aren't just helping out for a day, you're investing in a durable asset that belongs to all of us.

Managed right here in partnership with the community, it’s a way to ensure that local grants and student scholarships are always available, no matter what the future holds.

It’s community-led, purpose-driven, and designed by us, for us.

Meet Charli Boyd - a Peel local, PCF Murdoch Scholar, and proof that the right support at the right time can change everything. 💚

When Charli finished high school in , university felt financially out of reach. Raised by her grandparents in the Peel region, with her grandfather still working FIFO into his 70s, she didn't want to add to the pressure on her family.

"I didn't even know if I wanted to go to uni. It was always an expectation I had of myself, but financially, I just didn't think it was possible."

Everything changed when she discovered the Peel CommunityFoundation Murdoch University Scholarship.

Charli explains the impact. "It meant so much that someone saw a purpose in me. It gave me peace of mind, and it gave me confidence when I didn't see it in myself."

Today Charli is in her third year of a double major in Animal Science and Crop and Pasture Science, building connections in the agricultural sector and dreaming of one day owning her own farm right here in Peel.

Her advice to other local students?
"Just jump in the deep end. If you think you can't do it, you're probably wrong. All it takes is one person by your side. That makes all the difference."

Proud to be supporting local organisations like Choyces who put their clients needs at the centre of their service and see the value of extra effort in building networks and capacity across the service ecosystem.
