It is with deep sadness that CYM Melbourne shares the passing of Rev. Fr. Dmytro Seniw, a long-standing and honorary member of CYM, and a devoted chaplain and spiritual guide to generations of CYM members.
Born on 17 August 1940 in Rakovac, Bosnia, Fr. Dmytro studied in Rome before moving to Australia in 1966. In 1967, he became the first Ukrainian priest to be ordained in Australia.
Throughout his many decades of service, Fr. Dmytro ministered to Ukrainian Catholic communities across Australia, including Sydney, Canberra, Perth and Adelaide. He also served as chaplain to Ukrainian youth and was a valued spiritual mentor at many youth camps. In 1994, he was appointed a Mitred Archpriest in recognition of his dedicated service to the Church.
For our CYM community, Fr. Dmytro was more than a chaplain. He was a mentor, friend and constant source of guidance, helping generations of young Ukrainians strengthen their faith, identity and connection to their heritage.
CYM Melbourne extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, parishioners, fellow clergy and all those whose lives he touched. We give thanks to God for his life, his service and his enduring contribution to our Ukrainian community.
May his memory be eternal.
Вічная пам’ять.
