Ballarat and surrounds are proving to be the Stonker Capital of the State.
Another mate of my sons with this thumper of a Red Fin out at Miners Rest a week ago, a suburb on the outer fringes of Ballarat. Not sure of the name but its 3/4 the circumference of Wendouree and incredibly deep with as well huge Trout, Cod and Yella Belly, all just as meaty.

Always loved Newlyns Resevoir, back in the 80's & 90's. Caught some big Trout over the years. Prefered it over Hepburn and Dean.
But my sons mates have taken it to another level. Some say 8lb+, I reckon pushing 9 to 10lb.
Sure beats what I thought back in the day as big.
Thats a Stonker!

Been a while since Ive been to Tassie, but was my favourite fishing location for decades.
Recently though have noticed a few posts from a member of the Ulverstone Anglers club, who's been taking his two daughters to Lake Crescent and the results good enough that this most recent trip I had to share. This is one of his daughters Ebony with a thumping good looking Brown and they've been hitting Crescent successfully for a while now.
Its definetely given me the bug to head back over there.

Well the Lake Eildon Solo Murray Cod Stonker Hunting Kate Norman is at it again with this absolute thumping specimen. Many are used to Kate and her impressive Stonker Cod Talley over the past few years, so for Kate its just another night at office. The stuff the rest of us just dream of! She's got a nack.
Nice looking Cod!

Last Weekend was a Flatheat Comp down St Leonards.
At it again Pro Angler Michael Miller and partner in Crime many may know and also a Pro Angler Ben Scullin who both happen to live down there.
As you've seen in pasts posts including a recent one, you don't have to travel up the East Coast towards NSW or past and into to produce Stonker like Frogs in your back yard.
Ben reports to have seen the biggest Flathead he'd ever seen, even poked it with the tip of his Rod which made it scurry a little.
Asking why he didn't have a flick at it, he replied, "As it was a weigh In Comp by catching him he'd have to kill it and eat", but thought it was two big to not just let it be, he reports it dwarfed the ones they caught. They reported most weighed in Sand Flatties but their big ones are femal Blue Spotted's.
They have some great fishing at their back door!

Well unless some of you guys start sending me some shots, Pro Angler Michael Miller as mentioned also good mates of Ben Scullin's will still keep pumping out from his home base down St Leonards the type of Frogs the rest of us travel miles up the East Coast looking for.
That's two different ones by the way, not to mention bagging out with what ever else resides down that way. Nice Haul!
Tip, he went out when the wind was belting. "Gotta be uncomfortable if you want the good ones!" Quote 'Jim Allen'

Michael Miller a good friend of Ben Scullin's and Pro Angler who also lives down St Leonards. Went out today just for a mosey around and produced a Stonken 65cm Blue Spot Flathead. He's produced other Flathead Species just as big and bigger but there it is in our back yard. Well done Michael, ripping catch!

This stream running through an estate in Birmingham is just unbelievable to see. Even in early December, I didn't expect many to be out, but there are quite a few lads having a go. 🫨🎣

It's fishing exactly as it should be. Just at your own leisure without all the stress. Well, that is until the bloke over the road drives his bait boat right into your swim... but that’s beside the point.

The stream spans about a mile before it enters the pumping station and is absolutely rammed with carp and coarse fish up to around 25lb. It's great to see the community spirit still alive in Birmingham today.

Good luck to everyone out there. 🎣🏠

Alex Xuereb from the Footscray Anglers Club and long time friend of the EAC, Fishing with his best mate up on the Mathoura River. He reported though due to melting snow produced conditions too hard. So were forced to fish the Tributaries in what he described as crystal clear water. It doesn't get better than this on a Fly, especially heading up shallower arms and landing well over anyone's expectations and wild to boot. Like a legend released it back to swim another day. A fish like that in small water far out ways a stocked Stonker from a lake! Beautiful!
