Today, 15 June, AFCS joins communities across the World in recognising World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

During our Philippine Independence Day celebration at Bunjil Place on 12 June, AFCS staff, volunteers, community members, local government representatives, and healthcare workers proudly wore purple ribbons in support of older people and to help raise awareness of elder abuse. Wearing purple or a purple ribbon is a symbol of solidarity with older people, representing wisdom, dignity, and independence.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is an opportunity for all of us to stand together against the abuse, mistreatment, and neglect of older people, and to promote communities where older people are respected, valued, and supported.

Such a fun day with our Knox and SMR groups at Maharlika Lodge!

The room was full of conversation, laughter, and a little friendly competition as everyone joined in the activities and enjoyed spending time together.

As part of our Araw ng Kalayaan celebration, we took a moment to reflect on the history of the Philippines and the sacrifices that paved the way for the freedom we enjoy today.

Thank you everyone for joining us. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Our Ballarat Wellness Group recently enjoyed an overnight respite at Maharlika Lodge.

It was a chance to slow down, spend time together, and enjoy the simple things that make these stays so special.

Jem led a discussion on dementia awareness and shared valuable information about supporting people living with dementia and their families. A reminder that no carer is alone. Through shared experiences, carers can find support, guidance, and strength from others who understand the journey.

A special thank you to our volunteer Cheska for sharing her music with the group. Her ukulele performance brought smiles to our lovely titas and added a special touch to the stay.

There was never a dull moment throughout the stay. From singing and dancing sessions to sharing stories and laughter, our titas brought so much energy and joy wherever they went. Their enthusiasm was truly inspiring and made the experience even more memorable.

The group also enjoyed a visit to Peninsula Hot Springs where they had time to relax, unwind, and enjoy a well-deserved break.

Thank you to our Ballarat Wellness Group for joining us. We loved having you at Maharlika Lodge.

Looking back on a wonderful day at Maharlika Lodge with our Cardinia Wellness Group as we celebrated Mother’s Day last month.

A special thank you to our students, Shaine and Airele for leading an informative session on media literacy, helping our seniors learn more about staying safe online, recognising scams, and navigating social media with confidence.

It was lovely to have the group with us and see everyone enjoying their time together. Thank you for spending the day at Maharlika Lodge. We hope you left with happy memories and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Still recovering from all the Independence Day excitement.

A few more moments from our Philippine Independence Day celebration on 12 June. Windy weather, but the Filipino spirit showed up strong.

A big thank you to our team for another successful event, and to everyone who came along and made it such a memorable day.

See you at the next AFCS event! 🇵🇭

A moment of pride and respect during the 128th Philippine Independence Day Flag Raising Ceremony at Bunjil Place, Casey.

We were honoured to have PNP Corporal Jose Alburo Vijungco Yap, PNP Patrolwoman First Class Cornelia Palmonte Craw, and former 2nd Lieutenant of the Women’s Army Corps Elvira Butra Galucci lead the Philippine Flag entrance march and take part in the flag-raising ceremony, accompanied by the City of Casey Marshals.

Their presence made this occasion even more meaningful as we celebrated our heritage and community.
