Last 28 August, AFCS held our first Dementia Awareness Charity Lunch at Ginger Olive Restaurant in Melbourne, bringing together guests from the business, community and professional sectors to connect, learn more about AFCS and support dementia awareness.

The afternoon was an opportunity to build connections, raise awareness and encourage businesses and organisations to support culturally appropriate dementia care for our Filipino community.

Here are the official photos captured by Eye Deal Photography. 📸

Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported this meaningful event.

AFCS Supports Philippine National Elderly Week 2026

Here’s a glimpse of last year’s Seniors Walk in Pasay, celebrating the theme “Embracing Age: Living a Life of Dignity and Purpose.”

This October, AFCS is once again proud to support Philippine National Elderly Week, bringing dementia awareness, memory screening, and activities for our seniors to different communities across the Philippines.

📅 This October 2026:
• Oct 1 – MOA, Pasay: Seniors Walk
• Oct 3 – Lapu-Lapu, Cebu: Dementia Awareness & Memory Screening
• Oct 3 – Madridejos, Cebu: Dementia Awareness & Memory Screening
• Oct 5 – Madridejos, Cebu: Senior Activity
• Oct 5 – Zamboanga
• Oct 5 – Los Baños
• Oct 8 – Tuguegarao

Last year gave us many special memories, and this year, we look forward to reaching and connecting with even more seniors and their communities. 🇵🇭

These activities are made possible in partnership with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, National Commission of Senior Citizens, National Center for Mental Health and Local Governments, Alzheimer's Disease Association of the Philippines, and Dementia Society of the Philippines.

See you this October!

On September 4, AFCS held another special gathering with our clients, volunteers and community members from Moe and Newborough as we celebrated the housewarming of our Filipino Charity Home. It was wonderful to finally open the doors and welcome everyone into the home. We were also happy to have Tracie Lund join us on the day.

The occasion was made even more meaningful as we supported The Longest Table “Fork the Cancer” initiative and raised funds for cancer research. 💖

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our staff and volunteers who helped make the day possible. A special thank you to Jeffy and Tigran for sharing their music with our community throughout the day. 🎶

“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”
— Proverbs 24:3–4 🙏

May this home be filled with care, connection and many wonderful memories in the years to come.

Remembering God’s Goodness | 1st Wednesday Prayer Day

This first Wednesday of September, our AFCS community came together at Doveton Baptist Church for our monthly Prayer Day, facilitated by Kiko Cruz.

As we recognise World Alzheimer’s Month, we reflected on PCH — Pray, Care and Hope and how we can live these values each day. Members of our community also shared their own reflections on Kiko’s message and how they have experienced God’s goodness in their lives. 🙏

Our Prayer Day was followed by our church service, where members of our Community Voices shared their gift of singing with everyone. 🎶

We then gathered for lunch, lovingly prepared by our AFCS chef Julius and volunteers, giving thanks for the food and blessings God continues to provide.

We also celebrated the birthday of our dear Tito W***y! 🎂 We are grateful for the time and kindness he continues to give through volunteering and helping our AFCS community. He has truly been a blessing to many of us.

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.” — Psalm 77:11

September started on a high note at AFCS! Our Community Rhythm brought everyone together for Community Voices with Pastor Ranel, followed by plenty of kantahan and sayawan! 🎶💃

We also welcomed Gary Ferguson and Sharon, Education Coordinators from Senior Rights Victoria, who shared important information about seniors’ rights. Our Titos and Titas had the chance to learn more about their rights, the support available to them and where they can turn for help. Thank you for spending time with our community and sharing your knowledge with them.

Our hydrotherapy sessions are also still going strong! 💦 Another great way for our Titas to stay active and connected.

A big thank you to our AFCS staff and volunteers for supporting our Titos and Titas throughout all the activities!

A truly Filipino home away from home. Seeing the happiness on our seniors’ faces as they visited our new home was priceless. A place where our community can come together, connect, feel welcome and create beautiful memories.

Thank you to everyone who supported us and warmly welcomed AFCS into the Gippsland community. Here’s to new beginnings and many more beautiful memories together!
