The NECA ACT branch represents electrical and communications contractors across the ACT from small businesses to multinational conglomerates. Our members work across every facet of the industry including Accredited Service Providers, Date & Communications, Security, Fire, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning, Solar and Smart Wiring. The NECA ACT branch provides advice and support to help our members,

and the wider industry, to operate and manage their businesses more effectively. NECA welcomes today’s acknowledgement by Commonwealth, state, and territory Treasurers that the National Competition Council’s work provides a strong evidence base for national licensing, including for electrical occupations. Australia needs a national electrical licensing framework that allows qualified electricians to move efficiently between jurisdictions while maintaining strong and consistent safety, competency, and consumer protection standards.

NECA National Chief Executive Officer Stewart Joyce said, “A national electrical licensing framework is an initiative that NECA has been working on with government for many years. It is critical in driving Australia towards our clean energy and infrastructure targets and helping to get our skilled tradespeople to the areas that need them most. NECA stands ready to continue working constructively with the Australian Government and every state and territory government to turn this momentum into a safe, practical, and enduring national licensing system.”

National licensing can reduce unnecessary administration, improve workforce mobility and support the delivery of housing, infrastructure, data centres and the energy transition while retaining the high quality and safety standards expected of our electricians. NECA looks forward to continuing its work with governments to make this important reform a reality.
