NECA ACT represents electrical and communications contractors across the ACT and surrounds.

The NECA ACT branch represents electrical and communications contractors across the ACT from small businesses to multinational conglomerates. Our members work across every facet of the industry including Accredited Service Providers, Date & Communications, Security, Fire, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning, Solar and Smart Wiring. The NECA ACT branch provides advice and support to help our members, and the wider industry, to operate and manage their businesses more effectively. NECA members have access to phone and email support through NECA Member Services ensuring that you and your business receive specialist and expert advice. SIEA Outcome: ETU Multi-Enterprise Agreement Application Dismissed

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has dismissed the Electrical Trades Union’s application for a Single Interest Employer Authorisation (SIEA), finding that the proposed authorisation was not in the public interest.

This means the proposed multi-enterprise agreement cannot proceed in its current form.

For NECA members, particularly small and medium-sized electrical businesses, the decision provides clarity around the proposed scope of the application and the potential impact of multi-enterprise bargaining arrangements.

NECA NSW, NECA ACT and NECA Legal opposed the application on behalf of members. At the July FWC hearing, NECA, represented by barrister Peter Willink, raised concerns about the proposed agreement’s broad work and geographic scopes, and argued that the application was not in the public interest.

The FWC accepted NECA’s public-interest argument and concluded that the requirements for an SIEA had not been met.

What happens next? The decision can be appealed. If an appeal is lodged, NECA NSW and ACT will continue to represent and advocate for members. NECA will also continue to monitor developments in multi-enterprise bargaining laws and keep members informed of any implications for their businesses.

Congratulations to Martin Donnelly, winners of the Commercial Large Award at the 2026 NECA ACT Awards for the ATO Barton – 15 Sydney Avenue Electrical Services project.

Martin Donnelly’s scope spanned base building works, the ATO fit-out, building services and tenant requirements. The complex electrical package included three main switchboards supplied from three 1.5MVA transformers, essential services, standby generation, ATS and load management, lighting control, metering and solar PV integration.

The project also incorporated lightning protection, secure earthing and EMF shielding to selected specialist areas, delivering a comprehensive electrical solution for the large-scale facility.
