🌺 Lest We Forget 🌺
Today, as we observe ANZAC Day and honour those who served to defend our freedom, we reflect on the courage and sacrifice of the original ANZACs who fought at Gallipoli in 1915, and the countless men and women who have served in conflicts since. It is a solemn reminder of the cost of war and the resilience of those who stood for liberty, peace, and justice.
At the same time, we remember that yesterday marked the anniversary of the Seyfo—the Assyrian Genocide of 1915. We pause to honour the memory of the millions of Assyrians, alongside Armenians and Greeks, who were persecuted, displaced, and killed. Entire communities were destroyed, families torn apart, and a people faced near extinction.
Yet even in the face of unimaginable suffering, our people endured. From the ashes of tragedy, they rose with faith, courage, and an unbreakable spirit—preserving their identity, culture, and belief through generations.
We especially honour the brave Assyrian men who fought alongside the Allies in both World Wars, many volunteering in foreign lands to defend freedom, even as their own people faced persecution and displacement.
We also pay tribute to the Assyrian women—whose strength carried families and communities through the darkest of times. They protected their children, preserved language and faith, supported resistance, and became the foundation of survival and continuity for our people.
Though we can never fully repay their sacrifice, we honour them by remembering, by preserving our history, and by telling their stories—truthfully, proudly, and without silence.
Lest we forget.
