💜 SEPTEMBER IS WORLD ALZHEIMER’S MONTH

This month, we join people around the world in raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, challenging stigma and recognising the millions of people, families and carers whose lives are touched by dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is a progressive condition that can affect memory, thinking, behaviour and a person’s ability to manage everyday activities.

But behind every diagnosis is a person with a lifetime of memories, relationships, interests and experiences.

For people living with dementia, familiar surroundings, meaningful routines, social connection and compassionate, person-centred support can all play an important role in everyday wellbeing.

World Alzheimer’s Month is also a reminder to check in on the people who provide care. Supporting someone with dementia can be incredibly rewarding, but carers need understanding and support too.

This September, let’s continue creating communities where people living with dementia and those who care for them feel understood, respected and supported. 💜

Falls aren’t an inevitable part of getting older and a few simple changes around the home can make a big difference 👇

For older Australians, a fall can have a much bigger impact than a simple stumble. It can lead to serious injuries, reduced confidence, a longer recovery and, sometimes, a loss of independence. But there are practical ways to reduce your risk, from improving lighting and removing trip hazards to making bathrooms safer, choosing supportive footwear and keeping your strength and balance up.

Your home should be somewhere you feel safe, comfortable and confident. 🏡✨ The right aged care support can also help you stay independent, identify potential hazards and make everyday routines safer.

Want to learn more about falls prevention and how to make your home safer? Read our latest guide via the link in bio.

If you or someone you love could benefit from a little extra support at home, the For Care Aged Care team is here to help. 💙

Did you know that more than one in four Australians aged 65 and over experience a fall each year? While falls become more common as we age, they're not an inevitable part of getting older.

Staying active with strength and balance exercises can also help you maintain confidence, mobility and independence.

What can a support worker actually help with? 🤝

When many people think of in-home care, they often picture personal care. However, support workers can assist with so much more.

Their role is to help you maintain your independence, continue doing the things you enjoy and make everyday life a little easier.

A support worker may be able to help with:
🛒 Grocery shopping and running errands
🍽️ Meal preparation
🧹 Household tasks and light cleaning
🚗 Transport to appointments or social outings
🚶 Community access and staying active
💙 Companionship and meaningful social connection
🚿 Personal care, including showering and dressing
💊 Medication prompts
📅 Building routines that support your goals and wellbeing

The level of support you receive is tailored to your individual needs. Some people need a little help each week, while others benefit from more regular support.

At For Care Aged Care, we believe support is about more than completing tasks. It's about helping people continue living safely, confidently and independently in the place they call home.

If you'd like to learn more about our in-home support services, we'd love to chat.
