Thank you all for coming and making Sukkot in Cairns so special! Fo this Sukkot, Orin Aya Rafi and Elad, who build huge stages for big festivals here in North Queensland, built us a sukkah bigger than we ever had before. They worked hard, and it looked so beautiful. The first days fell over a weekend, so the meal attracted many more people, and people kept adding tables until we had used every table we had. Thank you to all those who helped us in our Sukkot appeal to help pay for al the expenses, a special thank to Eliezer Kornhauser and to Sam Tatarka for their special efforts and the Quensland Board of Jewish Deputees for their grant. Thanks to all those who helped put up the sukka and helped prepare and et up for the events.

On Chol Hamoed many had the chance to shake the lulav at our events. Especially the last meal in the Sukka event on Friday. Simchat Torah was in our home in Cairns. The first night we had a massive crowd of locals and tourists. We did Maariv and lovely hakafot, and had a nice meal. The next day people came in specially for Yizkor, and on Simchat Torah day we had minyanim so everyone could get an Aliyah, followed by a nice kiddush. Rachel used to live here and moved to Lismore. She came back to visit and was able to come with her kids and her mom. She had a great time. This is her Jewish community.

Was so nice seeing everybody at the Townsville Sukkot party thank you all so much for coming! Thank you Sammy and Dom for all your help setting up. Thanks Dom and Daniella for the last minute shopping. Thanks everyone for help cleaning afterwards. Chag Sameach!

A Wonderful Beginning to the New Year
What a beautiful way to begin the new year! This Rosh Hashanah, our community came together for a truly special celebration, filled with tefillah, delicious food, children’s activities, friendship and an incredible sense of Jewish community.
Behind the scenes, it took almost two weeks of preparation to make it all happen, including receiving two shipments of kosher food from Melbourne with both frozen and dry goods. A huge thank you to Joy Jakab, Boaz, Moshe, Chen and Odem for all their hard work preparing the food. Thank you also to Angela, Zoe, Sagit, Ben and Tammy for helping deliver honey cakes throughout the community and spreading some Rosh Hashanah sweetness.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time and energy. Thank you to Adam and Ofer for serving as our chazanim, Tali and Tzofia for running the wonderful kids’ program, Judah, Shirah, Muriwai Eugene ugene even though he was sick. and Amanda for all the schlepping, Daniel for his help with the fridge, Shirah for printing our brochures, Ben and Amanda for helping purchase food, and Grant for capturing the event through his fantastic photos. And, of course, a huge thank you to everyone who donated to our campaign your generosity made it possible for us to put this entire celebration together.
The result was something truly special. Hundreds of people sitting together for a beautiful Rosh Hashanah meal at the Hotel, followed by full services both mornings. We then capped off the chag with a beautiful Tashlich and shofar blowing in the park next to the hotel. Seeing so many people of all ages come together was a wonderful reminder of what we can achieve when we work together as a community.
As we begin this new year, we want to say thank you. Rosh Hashanah was such a special event it was areal reflection of the generosity, commitment and spirit of our community. May the year ahead bring our community continued growth, strength, connection and many more opportunities to celebrate together.
