BENGALI SWEET MAKING COMPETITION | DURGA PUJA 2026
As part of our Cairns Bongo Group Durga Puja 2026 celebrations, we are excited to bring you a very special Traditional Bengali Sweet Making Competition! ❤️
The focus will be on authenticity, traditional ingredients, technique and flavour — no modern fusion.
🍥 Your sweet could be:
1. Chhana-based: Rosogolla, Sandesh, Rajbhog, Pantua, Chomchom, Kheer Kadam
2. Milk & yoghurt-based: Mishti Doi, Payesh, Rabri, Rasmalai
3. Pitha & festive sweets: Patishapta, Bhapa Pitha, Gokul Pithe, Chandrapuli—or another traditional Bengali favourite!

🥇 1st Prize — $250
🥈 2nd Prize — $150
🥉 3rd Prize — $100
🏅 Plus a special People’s Choice Award
🍬 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
✅ Prepare one traditional Bengali sweet
✅ Bring 15–20 tasting portions
✅ Provide the name of your sweet
✅ Share any family or cultural significance behind it
✅ Bring your sweet ready for presentation
✅ Please use a clean, covered and food-safe container

⭐ HOW WILL IT BE JUDGED?
Entries will be scored out of 100 marks:
❤️ Authenticity — 25
😋 Taste & flavour balance — 25
✨ Texture & consistency — 20
🌸 Appearance & presentation — 15
🍃 Freshness — 15
Participants’ names will not be displayed during judging—each entry will receive a number. Judges will assess the presentation first, followed by tasting and independent scoring.
And everyone attending will also get the chance to vote for their favourite through our People’s Choice Award! 🏆
