World Environment Day is a good time to reflect on how climate-related disasters adversely affect women and girls.

Globally, systemic gender inequality has led to women and girls having fewer choices and resources than men. With each climate-related disaster, women fall farther behind men. Women are less able to rebuild their lives due to the widening gender gaps in education, pay, legal rights, leadership, and societal responses to climate change.

Zonta Says NOW to Gender-Equal Climate Action is Zonta International’s global initiative to achieve gender-equal climate justice. Through Zonta Says NOW, Zonta members advocate for women’s full and equal participation in the economy and support their inclusion as decisionmakers on environmental sustainability at national and local levels.

We promised 20,000 kits. Together, you helped deliver an incredible 32,100! 💪🏽💪🏽

Over the past few weeks, thousands of Australians have rolled up their sleeves at schools, workplaces, community halls and kitchen tables to help make Mother’s May 2026 a month to remember.

✨ 53 Assembly Days
✨ 2261 volunteers
✨ 32,100 Clean Birth Kits

To every volunteer who gave up a Sunday morning, stayed back after work, packed kits on a chilly autumn night, donated, fundraised or helped spread the word – thank you!

Together, we move closer to a world where women and girls can give birth without fear of death, disease or infection. 🙏

From all of us at the Birthing Kit Foundation Australia – thank you for making Mother’s May count!

We are delighted to acknowledge the Queensland Government as the Major Sponsor of Breaking the Hold: Strangulation Prevention & Response conference at the end of June. [Details below]

This landmark conference is bringing together leading experts from across Australia and internationally to strengthen responses to non-fatal strangulation, a high-risk and often hidden precursor to domestic homicide.

The Queensland Government’s support reflects a shared commitment to strengthening responses to domestic and family violence, supporting frontline professionals, and driving the collaboration, learning and system improvement needed to better protect victim-survivors and prevent future deaths.

Queensland has played an important leadership role in recognising the dangers of non-fatal strangulation and the need for stronger systemic responses in Australia. We are deeply grateful for the Queensland Government’s support in helping deliver a platform and place for this important national conversation.
