The old Masters site is now being developed by a new owner

Residents and motorists will have noticed the compulsory Material Change of Use (MCU) public notification signs around the site.

Public submissions close at COB to-morrow

For those unfamiliar with the history this was Ministerially approved back in 2014 using the State Government call-in-powers - at the time.

The approval included widening Kepnock Road and Greathead Rds intersection - but that didn't happen when Masters went broke. That could be a problem when coupled with the informal rat-run which now runs from Scherer Bvd through to the Aldi and now the Shopping Centre,

This history is quickly forgotten but the problem at the time was that the Ministerial approval also included the Shopping Centre in the watercourse - in a flood overlay - with no additional stormwater detention basins - as required at the time.

The receptor for all the storm- water is now (2020) a heritage listed Wetlands and the application contains a service station with fuel tanks.

These and traffic at the cnr. Kepnock & Greatheads Road, at peak school hour, could be problems which Council approval conditions should address with the new application....Time will tell

As a community organisation we upload the link for the petition about the Friendlies Hospital

As a community we cannot stand idly by while 100 beds are available but closed to those now being shipped out of town to other localities and facilities

The CEO and Board have not advised what their future strategy is - or even if they have one.

We need those beds, and that option as our Base Hospital now has to plug that gap - and they cant. Our community needs those beds. The region needs those beds. Our Public Health system needs those beds...............Please help

Remove the Board and CEO of Friendly Society Private Hospital

Councils build and use drains to direct overland flow paths for storm-water run off No development (supposedly) should have post-development run -off flows which exceed the pre-development run-off.

If this law did not exist adjoining blocks of land and the people who live there would be adversely affected. Failure to do this allows people who suffer detriment from nearby development to take legal action

Drains are often cemented or rock based to prevent erosion caused by the strength of and pace of storm-water.

There is obviously some confusion with the Kepnock watercourse - probably because the Council back in 2016 refused to acknowledge their own mapping

The Kepnock Shopping Centre is NOT built in a drain - it is a watercourse . Compare this DRAIN with the Kepnock watercourse

The earlier video showed the positioning of Maccas in the watercourse- a watercourse which has historically overtopped for the past 50 years. The debris left behind post construction was used to hold the fencing in place during construction. The theory was that it would stop the fencing from toppling because of the weighting in the bottom of the watercourse

That fencing didn't stand a chance back in 2022 after they filled in the exit under Walker Street and replaced it with larger pipes attached to the small pipes that had been there for the past 30 years.

It's a fairly basic concept that drains aren't meant to be filled in,, built over, in or on - but this is not a drain. It is a tributary of Bundaberg Creek and formally mapped as a watercourse.,

Time will tell !!!

Maccas on the bottom of the watercourse - now finished and operational. The debris they have left is where the fence has been removed after the construction was finished.

Back from the Wetlands - over to the other side of FEWalker Street and it's another MACCAS . So very quietly, without any bells or whistles, Bundaberg got its' 4th. Maccas. It is the standard format used globally and despite the initial advertising is NOT 24 hour .

The "hidden dump" has raised - and continues to raise, questions about the core business of Local Government in Australia.

Historically it is about Roads, Rates and Rubbish . Roads and waste management are funded by Rates - and some roads have State and/or Federal responsibility. So, for Councils it is Local Roads - not ALL roads.

The history of the "hidden dump" was an instance where truth, community consultation and the environment became "victims" of bureaucratic power . "Delegated authority " was the tool given by elected members to non-elected bureaucrats who made decisions for which they, as public servants in the employ of the Council, would never be held responsible.

The "hidden dump" is one such instance, as is the demolition of the Anzac Pool and some asset purchases which left the Council coffers short of ready cash..

It is obvious that the Council CEO, of that time, was less than truthful about the "hidden dump" when he was forced to answer to the Local Government Ombudsman about this outrageous environmental vandalism.

Read the facts and make your own assessment - but this environmental monstrosity should NOT be there .

How would you solve it???

Many, it seems, have been taking our advice and actually making the effort to go and have a look at the various sites on which we have provided facts and history.

For those who went and checked out the Wetlands, the Watercourse and saw that Maccas IS in the watercourse , we have been asked for the history of "all that stuff near the Environmental Park walking trail".

We have actually already provided that - so will include it with the very latest photos of the "hidden dump".

This community space is finally re-opening. It is what the veterans always wanted . It is their land and they never wanted the "grand vision" ruthlessly dictated by the previous Council regime. which dictated it was to be an entertainment centre to bring back "visitors" to the CBD. That vision required demolition of their Anzac Pool, because Council needed that space for their plans. Those final plans cost in excess of $1m and have never been released to the public. The $5m Federal grant was returned by the incoming Council because the previous Council could not acquit the funding in terms of the required and approved result.

It is now a quiet place of reflection, remembrance and respect - honouring veterans of all Australian conflicts. It provides river views and the nearby RSL Club is finally that - a social home for veterans, their friends families and visitors who come to our beautiful region.

The issue of traffic - especially once the application for the former Masters-Spotlight site -is approved, as it should be, has some historical implications, as well.

We have already provided the references for interested persons to check out the application on Council's web-site.

The Traffic assessment for the new application does not seem to include the Kepnock Greatheads Road intersection - which the Ministerial approval did address back in 2013. That's because that road is not a State road - but a Council road and the 2014 approval was a State approval - not a Council one..

Just some more jigsaw pieces for the full picture
