Rotary Club of Bundaberg City Daybreak

Rotary Club of Bundaberg City Daybreak Our club was chartered with midday meetings by host club, Bundaberg West, in January 1988. Steve Cooper led a Group Study Exchange team to the USA.

Meets fortnightly; on the 2nd Wednesday for a casual coffee at various cafes; and a more formal meeting on the 4th Wednesday morning at 06.45 at the Salvation Army Church, 110 McCarthy Road The name was officially changed to Daybreak in September 2002 and now meets as a breakfast club. When Desma van Rosendal was president she spearheaded the construction of Rotary House, which through her vision

and determination came to fruition in 2004, with the help and generosity of many Rotarians, members of the community and a comprehensive coverage by the local press. After construction, the house was sold, with all money raised going to Rotary. All clubs in the area worked together again in 2009 to build a family park and playground at the Lake Ellen Heritage Hub and has funded the Bundaberg Health Services Foundation Rotary House for out of town hospital patients and their carers. The group holds a joint meeting at Childers each year and runs film premieres raising funds for ‘End Polio Now’ – recently ‘Monuments Men’ and ‘Bridge of Spies’. The Club arranged a Healthy Life, Home and Community Expo, had guest speakers from other community and business groups, participated in Vocational visits (Tom Quinn Community Centre, Police Station, Pacific Macadamias) and held social functions (Barefoot Bowls, picnic at Lake Ellen, Secret Santa party, Danish Christmas party).
