Surf for Kids

Surf for Kids We organize a variety of fundraising events, including surf competitions, speaking events and charity auctions, as well as accepting direct donations.

Surf For Kids is a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting children and their families
in the Sunshine Coast region (and surrounds) who are facing financial hardship due to
disabilities and mental health challenges. Our mission is to raise funds that provide critical
financial assistance to children and their families when government funding or assistance is
unavailable or has been exhaust

ed, and the families are unable to meet the necessary financial demands themselves. Our fundraising efforts are driven by the generous contributions of donors, volunteers, and
community partners who share our belief in positively impacting the lives of children and their families. We also collaborate with local businesses, schools, and organisations to raise awareness and gather support for our cause. The committee of Surf For Kids is made up of previous members of The Board Meeting Surf Charity, which closed in late 2024 after 21 years serving the community. Every single dollar raised in our events goes to the local families we support. All operating and administration costs are covered by our wonderful committee and sponsors. This proves without a doubt that surfers have big hearts when it comes to helping out those in the community. Our Ambassadors

We're looking for a couple of spring cleaners who might like to give a day to help out a local nana who is the permanent carer for her severely disabled grandson.

Life has been extremely hard for her as she recently had major back surgery and has now contracted pneumonia. With the high needs of her grandson and her own declining health issues, she just hasn't been able to clean the house, inside or outside. It's a smaller 3-bedroom brick home located at Currumundi.

We expect there will be a bit to throw out, so we have arranged for a skip bin to be placed in the front yard.

Maybe someone with a pressure washing business might also like to donate their time to wash down the exterior windows, fascia, gutters and concrete to make it look nice for them.

We understand it is very hard for some people to ask for help, but if we all chip in a little time, we can change a life for the better.

Please share this with those who might be able to help.

At Surf For Kids, we pride ourselves on helping families quickly. In most cases, we can approve a request for funding in 24 hours and have the payment completed in 72 hours.
Occasionally, things take a lot longer, especially building projects, where we have to coordinate suppliers, trades and volunteers to help.
Our Director Mark has known the Stewart family for many years and helped provide therapy for their son Seb, back in the Board Meeting days.
Mum, Jen, approached Mark earlier this year to help her transform the courtyard area for their home into an area where they could receive therapy and play safely. Jen had some savings, but it was nowhere near what was needed, so Mark put the word out for volunteers and suppliers who might be interested in getting involved.
First hand up was Lio Tellan from Look Homes, who agreed to project-manage the whole job. With all his contacts, he secured a great team, and once body corporate and council approval was sorted, the project started to take shape.

We'd really like to thank them all:
* Project Manager - Lio Tellan, Look Commercial
* Excavations - Bebrok Excavations
* Pergola Design, Certification, Supply & installation - Southern Cross Sheds
* Concrete - Holcim
* Concrete Pumping - Meales Concrete Pumping
* Concreters - Jack of all Trowels
* AC disconnect & re-connection - Cool & Secure
* Mesh and concrete fixings - Lyndons Building & Construction Supplies
* Plumbing & Drainage - RK Plumbing & Gas Solutions
* Landscaping - CBL Landscaping

6 months later, we are done, and the transformation is outstanding.

This email from Jen sums it all up πŸ˜€

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

As Mark mentioned, our family includes 3 kids with autism, ADHD and hypermobility. I am a single mum. We experienced DV, so the kids all live with me full time; the 4 of us in a 3-bedroom townhouse. The youngest is not able to attend school, so I am currently out of work while we homeschool.

Our backyard was a dusty, unusable mess. The morning sun would hit the glass doors and heat up the whole house. We planned and saved over the past 3 years to add concrete and a patio roof, but the cost of this project increased faster than we could save the money to pay for it.

Then came Mark Skinner and his Surf For Kids team of knights in shining work boots. You transformed this space into something that feels amazing and extends the usable space in our home massively. The kids now have room to play, relax and do their therapy exercises. The house is no longer unbearably hot in the mornings, so we will save money on aircon costs. In the afternoon, the whole space is shaded so it is a comfortable place to move or just spread out.

The impact is that we have been able to relax more. There have been fewer meltdowns from the kids and the whole house feels more peaceful. Our visiting therapy assistant is happy to have a beautiful, cool space to work with the kids instead of the hot garage. The kids are more compliant in doing their exercises. My youngest is able to have her sensory needs met by rolling back and forth on a skateboard in the safety of a fenced-in yard. And I have somewhere to go when I am feeling exhausted or overwhelmed, and I need to be outside but still nearby the kids.

Thank you so much for giving your time, resources and expertise to help my family. This space will brighten our lives for years to come.

Warm regards, Jen.

We are looking for a volunteer handyman who might be able to give a few hours to a beneficiary single-parent family at Nambour to childproof a few areas to keep their disabled daughter safe.
Things like securing access from the garage to the main house, putting in some shelves in the garage, lifting up any potential dangers from her view and general cleaning out so items within reach don't make it into her mouth.
It's a love job that will leave you feeling good knowing you've made a small difference in someone's life.
Message us if you feel you can help.

Today we approved Occupational Therapy Functional Capacity Assessments and Support funding for 4-year-old Saoirse, who has ASD, Severe Speech Impairment, Intellectual Disability, PICA, Neurological Regression and Seizures.
Such a gorgeous little girl who really deserves our help.
Thanks to everyone who donates and comes to our fundraising events. Together, we are changing the Sunny Coast, one child at a time.

It's been a pretty busy week for projects and approvals, but super excited to help cover the autism assessment costs for Zavier. At 17, Zav is at the top end of the age group we can assist, but if this can get him some long-term NDIS support, that would be awesome. Well done Connect Kids for getting the application to us.
