DV Safe Phone

DV Safe Phone We test and distribute your old mobile phones to domestic violence survivors Australia-wide. Your old phone could save a life.

We can receive your old phone via post at PO Box 1440 Mooloolaba QLD 4557, or via one of our many supporter drop-off locations listed on our website. Once tested (assuming it works), we will give it to a domestic violence agency, to provide to a domestic violence survivor who is in danger and needs a reliable phone to use in an emergency.

Great to see DV Safe Phone CEO & Founder Ashton Wood take part in Forward Fest, joining an inspiring panel discussion moderated by Susan Toft on “The Blood, Sweat & Tears of Overnight Success.” 💜

Ashton and his fellow panellists shared the realities behind building something meaningful - the challenges, setbacks, lessons, and persistence it takes to create lasting impact.

A big thank you to FWD Fest and Susan Toft for creating space for honest conversations about the founder journey - because the real story is often everything that happens behind the scenes.

⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT AUSALERT AND SAFE PHONES ⚠️

The Australian Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), is launching AusAlert - a new national warning system that sends emergency messages to compatible mobile devices, including phones, tablets and watches. It’s a fast and reliable way to help keep Australians informed so they can act quickly during disasters such as bushfires, severe weather and public health emergencies.

Before AusAlert is ready to use in October 2026, NEMA needs to test the system locally and nationally. They also want all Australians to know what an AusAlert will look and sound like and how to stay safe when receiving an alert.

Being aware of the AusAlert system is especially important for those with a Safe Phone, as the alerts may expose these safety devices. The advice from NEMA is that if it is not safe to receive AusAlerts on your Safe Phone, keep the device off or in ✈️ Aeroplane Mode.

📅 The testing of AusAlert will happen in two phases:

📍 Community Test Alert - Tests will take place in selected cities, towns and remote areas across Australia in June 2026 (see locations and dates below). The community tests will be Priority Alerts, which means,

• Your mobile device will vibrate and make a loud siren-like warning sound that lasts for about 10 seconds.
• Your device won't vibrate or make a sound if it is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’.
• You can also turn the sound and vibration off in your mobile device settings.

🚨 National Test Alert - A national test of AusAlert will happen on Monday, 27 July 2026. During the test, all compatible mobile devices in Australia will receive an alert simultaneously. The national tests will be Critical Alert, which means,

• Your mobile device will vibrate and make a loud siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds before stopping.
• Your device will vibrate and make the sound EVEN IF IT IS ON ‘SILENT’ OR ‘DO NOT DISTURB’.
• You can’t turn off Critical Alerts.

⚠️ If you are concerned about receiving either the Community Test Alert or the National Test Alert, please follow these steps.

• One hour before the test - Turn off your mobile device or put it in aeroplane mode.
• During and after the test - Keep your device off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours.

NEMA has engaged with DV Safe Phone to communicate this message to all partners that supply our Safe Phones to victim-survivors. We encourage partners to discreetly communicate with any individual who has received a Safe Phone to ensure they are aware of these upcoming events. We will continue to communicate with you in the lead-up to the National Test date on Monday, 27 July 2026.

Lizzie, DV Safe Phone’s Corporate Giving Partner, was so pleased to spend time with Peter Khalil, and see his office get behind DV Safe Phone this Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month 💜

Peter’s electorate office is now collecting old mobile phones from the community, with a DV Safe Phone collection box in place to help support people experiencing domestic and family violence.

A safe phone is more than just a device. It can be a lifeline, a way to call for help, stay connected to support, and take the next step towards safety.

With millions of unused phones sitting in drawers across Australia, it’s powerful to see leadership helping turn something idle into something life-changing.

Thank you to Peter and his team for standing alongside victim-survivors. If you have an old phone at home, now is the time to donate it.

Strong community partnerships creating real impact in Ballina 💜

Nikki Firmin, Head of Community & Corporate Partnerships at DV Safe Phone, recently caught up with Deb and Andy from the Rotary Club of Ballina on Richmond, alongside Claire Tyson, Executive Manager Marketing & Community Engagement at Ballina RSL Club Ltd, to explore how we can strengthen local support, raise awareness and help more people access safe connections.

Ballina RSL plays an important role in supporting vulnerable members of the community through local partnerships, wellbeing initiatives and practical support services. Their commitment to raising awareness of domestic and family violence and hosting a DV Safe Phone collection point is helping turn community action into real impact.

If you’re in the Ballina region, you can donate your old phone at the Ballina RSL collection box and help someone access safety, support and connection when they need it most.

Together, we can help keep people safe and connected.

A big thank you to Club Lennox Sports and Cherry Street Sports Ballina for their incredible support of the Against the Wind Charity Ride.

DV Safe Phone’s own Nikki Firmin was proud to be part of the event, supporting the riders and witnessing the power of community coming together to take action against domestic and family violence.

A special thank you to Club Lennox and Cherry Street Sports for capturing the event and creating this fantastic video.

Late last year, Jai McNaughton, People & Culture Manager, reached out to organise a DV Safe Phone collection box at Novotel Perth Murray Street. Jai also helped establish a second collection point at Novotel Darwin Airport for public donations.

Pictured is the first batch of donated phones now on its way to us from the Perth site.

Every donated phone helps create a safe connection for someone who needs it most.

Together, we can help keep people safe and connected.
