✨Grateful to acknowledge a generous act from the team at Vadals!

When recently cleared their redundant IT equipment, they chose to donate rather than dispose.
That meant laptops, desktops and 10 brand new keyboards have headed to our Banyo workshop where our volunteers carry out the data wiping and refurbishing process.
These devices will soon pass into the hands of student, families, veterans and job-seekers throughout Queensland.🫶

This is what responsible e-waste disposal looks like in practice: no landfill, no data security risks, and a direct benefit to the local community.💚🌱

But just when we thought they were done, Vadals also agreed to become a C4L Donation Location!📍
So if you are in the Richlands area and you have a device you want to donate, drop it off at their premises at 56 Whitelaw Place, Richlands and say G'day to the team there.
They are an amazing family owned business that wholesales to the food industry - everything from eco-friendly packaging to sausage casings!

School and university breaks are around the corner, and this means that Zara, who was doing a placement with us as part of her studies at Australian Catholic University (ACU), has completed her placement.

We asked Zara to share some of her reflections about her time volunteering with C4L. She obliged and we turned some of the more poignant ones into a reel.👇

We are on the slippery slope to the end of the financial year and already the EOFY specials are being promoted.

C4L's products are already pretty special, so we aren't promoting discounts. But we are hoping that if YOU take advantage of a new discounted computer, that you will consider passing your old one on to us.

If you have a number of devices, let us know and we can arrange collection. Otherwise drop what you have off to us at our workshop located at the Victor Street entrance of the Earnshaw State College campus.
Our business hours are: Thursday - Saturday from 9am - 12pm.

Every now and then one of our customers contacts us with feedback that really grounds us and gives us pause to think about the impact of what we do.
This post is a little long but I hope you take the time to read it.

Recently we received an email from a past customer that was beyond special. This person gave us their approval to share what they said. As this person wants to remain anonymous, we shall call them M.

Here is what M told us:

“I would like to sincerely thank you for providing me with a computer through your program.

I have just completed my first trimester at university, and honestly, I do not know how I would have managed without it. The computer allowed me to access my university coursework, complete assignments, attend to my studies wherever I was, and stay connected to the resources I needed. I took it with me everywhere.

What I did not expect was how much more it would become than simply a study tool. Alongside my coursework, it became a place where I could write, reflect, and work through many of the challenges and fears that surfaced as I returned to education later in life. During difficult moments, it gave me somewhere to put my thoughts and continue moving forward.

This computer did far more than help me complete assignments. At times, it felt as though it held me up. It gave me the opportunity to learn, create, and persevere through a very important chapter of my life.

I am deeply grateful for your generosity and for the difference your program has made to my education and personal growth. Thank you for investing in people like me and for making opportunities possible that might otherwise be out of reach.”

M then went on to highlight something that should make us all think about how we go through life.
Often we are quick to voice our displeasure about things, and platforms such as this makes it easy to do this in a way that is often brash and sometimes despicable.
But are we as quick to express our gratitude about things well done or an act kindness?
Maybe not.

M said that they very nearly did not write their email because they didn’t think it mattered to us. But then they decided that because of what we do, we are now a part of the story of their life. M’s final words really moved us. 💜💚💜💚💜💚

Recently recruitment agency Sharp & Carter’s Brisbane office reorganised their workplace and found they had some excess laptops that were too good to throw out. So they decided to find a way to give them a good home.
Their IT Support Officer did some research, discovered C4L and gave us a call.

And the winners as a result are:
✅ Those who are struggling in our community and who now have the opportunity access a quality computer.
✅ Our environment because there are 12 less laptops that will become e-waste.
✅ Sharp and Carter for demonstrating great corporate social responsibility and choosing C4L!

We love that increasingly schools are choosing to give C4L their redundant computers so they can be refurbished and rehomed, rather than simply get recycled.

The latest school to join the fold is Geebung State School who gave us a quantity of desktop computers✨.
Thank you to Kerry who facilitated this. We really appreciate that C4L was at the top of the list when you were wondering what to do with these devices. ✅

The computers will eventually make their way to low-income families and individuals where they will continue to allow people to stay connected and abreast of the times.🤩

From collection of the donation to collection of the refurbished device by a grateful new owner, this reel covers what the C4L volunteers do to keep unwanted tech viable. 🤝

The quarantining and wiping of devices is not shown because, well, there's not much to see and only a couple of people have access to this stage.

📣Shout out to the team at the Brighton Wellness Hub.

The BWH is part of the Metro North Hospital and Health Services and it provides a space for their local community to access services, activities and information that support healthy ageing.
We are grateful that they have agreed to host one of our Donation Bins.
So, if you live near Brighton or Sandgate and have a laptop you now longer need, why don't you drop it off there?
And then you can get yourself some fish and chips and go sit on the foreshore and take in the amazing view 🏖️
