This week is Speech Pathology Week, with the theme ‘Impact Through Communication’! 📞👋🗣️🙊

“We’re celebrating the incredible role speech pathologists play in helping people thrive at every stage of their lives... Around 1.2 million Australians need support with communication and behind every person, is a story, and a team of professionals making a real difference.” -

In honour of Speech Pathology Week, we will be hosting our annual ‘Silent Bake Sale’ where you can grab a free baked treat with the challenge of ordering without speaking. This event brings awareness to alternative and augmentative communication strategies, through the encouragement of using non verbal speech; low and high tech AAC devices, gestures, print etc.

🗣️Have your say on supporting autistic speech pathology (SP) students on placement!

We want to hear from:
• Autistic students/past students who have undergone a SP placement.
• SPs who have supervised student placements.
• Other staff members involved with SP placements, such as university staff who coordinate placements, work in university Access and Equity, and staff from external organisations who liaise with universities about placements.

Australian Catholic University is recruiting volunteers for research purposes. This study has been approved by the ACU Human Research Ethics Committee.

Autistic speech pathology professionals bring a unique viewpoint, and our study needs your help to create a framework to support our autistic students through their exposures to the professional SP world on placement.

🙋Participation will involve several rounds of surveys taking an estimated 20 minutes each, with the option to participate in focus groups if willing. Responses will be made anonymous and disseminated to participants to share ideas and knowledge.
