Breastmilk is a perfectly balanced source of nutrition and is the best food for all infants. Although its contents vary and are constantly changing, breastmilk contains active antibodies which protect newborns from a variety of infections and diseases. When a mother's own milk is not available, donated mothers' milk is the next best option for her baby, ensuring optimum physical and neurological development and protection from infection. It assists in the treatment of allergies and feeding intolerance, immunologic deficiencies and inborn errors of metabolism. If an infant is sick or premature, it is an especially important contributor to their recovery.

📍 Northgate, Queensland | On-site🕒 Approximately 20-30 hours per week.

We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-focused person to support our production team with donor breast milk pasteurisation, sample preparation for laboratory testing, record-keeping and packaging.

Previous experience in dairy processing, pasteurisation, food production or laboratory work would be highly regarded. Training in our milk bank processes will be provided.

Your extra breast milk could become the bridge to breastfeeding for another mother. 💛

For many mothers, the early days of feeding don’t go as planned. Milk supply may take time to become established, breastfeeding can be challenging, or medical and personal circumstances may make it difficult to produce enough milk straight away.

Donated breast milk can give these families another option: screened, pasteurised and tested donor milk for their baby while they establish their own supply, seek professional support and find their rhythm. For some mothers, that little bit of extra time can help them continue towards the breastfeeding journey they hoped for.

Mother’s Milk Bank, we can accept high lipase breast milk for donation.

As long as you’ve completed your lifestyle screening and blood test — your milk is still absolutely safe and valuable for babies in need.

What is high lipase milk?Lipase is a natural enzyme in breast milk that helps babies digest fats. In some mums, the enzyme is more active — especially after milk is expressed and stored — which can cause a soapy or metallic smell or taste. Importantly, this doesn’t mean the milk is bad or unsafe.

Why we can accept it:• In frozen milk, lipase slows down but remains active — which is why the taste can change over time.•

During donor milk processing, pasteurisation deactivates the lipase enzyme.•

So if you’ve been told your milk is “high lipase”… please don’t throw it away.It can still nourish a tiny life. 🫶
