Allied Justice is a
for-purpose organisation providing free legal services, community legal education, law reform & integrated services.

We have offices in Ballarat & Horsham & can assist eligible people in these areas. We actively work in partnership wherever possible, with government, Victoria Legal Aid and other publicly funded legal assistance service providers, pro bono contributors, the private legal profession, community services agencies and other community partners to ensure the best outcomes for their clients and community.

As part of our commitment to building safer, more respectful communities, Allied Justice staff recently took part in a reflective exercise to explore what respect means to each of us personally.

Each team member created a collage from abstract artwork to express their unique perspective on respect. These individual works will contribute to the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Collaborative Community Artwork Project, which will be exhibited at the Ballarat Central Library.

The annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign that calls on communities to help prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. It highlights the importance of building communities where women are safe, equal and respected, and reminds us that meaningful change starts with respect. It runs each year from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

While each collage is unique, together they convey a powerful collective message about the role respect plays in fostering safety, equality and inclusion. Through reflection, conversation and creativity, our staff have contributed their voices to a broader community effort to challenge the attitudes and behaviours that drive gender-based violence.

We are proud to support the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and stand alongside our community as we work towards a future free from violence.

We are deeply saddened and shocked by the recent attack on Helen Haines MP.

Our thoughts are with Helen, her family and her staff at this incredibly difficult time. We wish Helen strength, courage and every support as she navigates her recovery from the critical injuries sustained in this attack.

Violence, threats and intimidation have no place in our community or in our democracy. Every elected representative deserves to serve their community safely and without fear.

Today, we also acknowledge the many women who represent communities across our region and, like Helen, dedicate themselves to public service. We stand in solidarity with:

🎉 We’ve officially opened our new Ballarat office!

Allied Justice is proud to celebrate our new home at 40 Camp Street in Ballarat.

This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to making legal help more accessible across regional Victoria. Our new office provides a welcoming space where community members can access support, advice and information when they need it.

The official opening will bring together community leaders, partner organisations and supporters who share our vision for strong, connected and informed communities.

As Allied Justice continues to grow, this new space will help us better support our clients, deliver community education programs, strengthen partnerships, and advocate for positive change across the region.

A highlight of the event will be the recognition of Hannah's Voice, an important initiative working to prevent gendered violence through education, awareness and community action.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Allied Justice on this journey. We look forward to welcoming clients, community members and partner organisations to our new space and to continuing to work together to build stronger, safer communities.

⚠️When disaster strikes, recovery is about more than rebuilding homes and infrastructure. It's also about helping people navigate the legal challenges that can stand in the way of getting their lives back on track.

🛟Community legal centres play a vital role in disaster recovery by providing free legal information, advice and support to people affected by bushfires, floods and other natural disasters.

🚨Disasters do not affect everyone equally. People experiencing financial hardship, housing insecurity, disability, or living in remote communities often face greater barriers to recovery. Legal issues such as insurance disputes, tenancy problems, debt concerns, and difficulties accessing services can add significant stress during an already challenging time.

At Allied Justice, our Disaster Resilience Project helps communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters by providing legal assistance, community education and resources that build resilience and protect people's rights.

⚖Community legal centres are there for communities before, during and long after a disaster. But they can only provide that support when they have the certainty of sustainable, long-term funding.

Anti-Poverty Week: Roadmap to Reform

Poverty can happen to anyone.

Research shows that more than 1 in 7 Australians live below the poverty line, with women, children, sole parents, renters, people with disability and First Nations communities disproportionately affected.

At Allied Justice, we believe access to justice is critical to addressing disadvantage. When people face family violence, housing stress, discrimination, employment issues or financial hardship, timely support can help prevent problems from escalating.

During Anti-Poverty Week, we acknowledge the challenges many people in our communities face and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring everyone can access information, advocacy and support when they need it most.

🎤🎶 New York, New York... and Horsham too!

Angela Murphy from Allied Justice Horsham attended the Seniors Concert at the Horsham Church of Christ on Friday, where 230 local seniors enjoyed a wonderful Frank Sinatra concert led by Ian Stenlake. The toe-tapping performance celebrated Frank Sinatra's life and timeless music, with the audience singing along.

Allied Justice was pleased to host a stall alongside Ambulance Victoria, SES, Horsham Rural City Council, CFA, Hearing Australia and Catholiccare Carefinder, providing community members with information and resources.

Events like these are a great opportunity to connect with seniors in our community, share information about our services, and help people access support when needed.

Anti-Poverty Week: How Children See Living in Poverty

> I wish my family wasn't struggling anymore.

> My lunch box isn't always full. Sometimes I hear grown-ups talking about bills, rent, groceries and money when they think I'm not listening.

> I worry when my parents worry.

>I wish there wasn't so much stress about finding a house. I wish food didn't cost so much. I wish kids who need it could get free lunches at school.

Most of all, I wish my family didn't have to struggle with money anymore.
During Anti-Poverty Week, let's listen to what children living in poverty are telling us. They aren't asking for more toys or treats. They're asking for enough food, a safe home, less stress for their families, and the chance to be kids.
