We've had a great Day 1 at our RG26 Conference and welcomed so many rural doctors from all over South Australia for a day of clinical updates and networking with colleagues.

Today's program has been interactive and informative, designed specifically for rural medicine in South Australia, and focused on pain management, obesity and weight management, and cardiology.

We look forward to doing it all again tomorrow with sessions in mental health, obstetrics, paediatrics, IBD, and supporting dementia patients.

Concluding this year's conference is the RDWA RG26 Rural GP & RG Long Service Awards and Gala Dinner to recognise doctors who have contributed to the health and wellbeing of rural communities for 25, 35 and 50 years.

Medicine students experience the role of an RG Anaesthetist in the Barossa Valley 🩺

Nineteen medicine students from Adelaide University and Flinders University travelled to the Barossa Valley on 28 March to immerse themselves in learning and working alongside a team of experienced RG Anaesthetists for the two-day R2R Medicine RG Anaesthetics Clinical Experience.

Thank you to the facilitation group - Dr Lisa White, Dr Bill Geyer, Dr Stuart Ross, Dr Kate Honner, Dr Fraser Vivian and Dr Millie Wells - for hosting the students at the Angaston Hospital and at Angaston Medical Centre's Health on Washington clinic 🫶

Students were highly engaged and shared they'd developed a better understanding of the role of an RG Anaesthetist in rural practice and the benefits of rural medicine. They took the opportunity to ask great questions of the facilitation group, and many have indicated their strong intention to apply for a rural intern position in PGY1.

R2R Clinical Experiences offer final year South Australian medicine students the opportunity to experience what a rural career and lifestyle can be like.

Supporting non‑Fellowed rural doctors through the 2026 TFP workshop series 🩺

Our first Towards Fellowship Program (TFP) professional development workshop for 2026 was held on Saturday 28 February, focusing on Dermatology and the identification, treatment and management of skin cancers.

TFP workshops support doctors in rural South Australia who are on a pre-Fellowship or Fellowship pathway, providing targeted clinical and practical learning, plus the chance to meet and connect with rural colleagues. Each session is delivered by rural-experienced Medical Educators and subject matter experts.

Dermatology workshop participants shared that the interactive presentations provided an excellent learning experience, extending their knowledge, practical skills and confidence in managing dermatological presentations.

📅 Our next workshop, Pain Management in Rural General Practice, will be held as part of our RG26 Conference on Friday 22 May.
