Our Zanzibar Marine Conservation Project gives you the chance to learn hands-on while contributing to marine conservation in one of Africa’s most incredible island destinations 🐬

Imagine spending your days exploring some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, getting out on the ocean, meeting the local community, and actually doing something that helps protect the marine environment.

That’s exactly what our Zanzibar Marine Conservation Project is all about. 🌊

Based in the southeast of the island, this is a small and hands-on project with a maximum of just 10 volunteers. You’ll spend your time in and around the ocean, helping with marine research and conservation while experiencing a completely different side of island life.

And you don’t need to be a marine biologist or have any previous research experience. You’ll learn everything you need from the team on the ground while gaining practical experience in marine conservation, research techniques and working with the local community.

🐚 WHAT YOU’LL GET UP TO 🐚

🐬 Swim ethically alongside wild dolphins while contributing to research
🐠 Snorkel coral reefs and help monitor coral bleaching
🤿 Work towards your PADI Open Water certification on weekends
🌱 Get involved in schools and clubs to inspire the next generation of local conservationists
🍽️ Experience authentic island life through cultural exchanges and traditional dinners
🌴 Stay anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks

And when you’re not volunteering, there’s plenty of time to enjoy Zanzibar. Try kitesurfing, watch the sunset from a traditional dhow, explore the island or just find a quiet stretch of beach and switch off for a while.

It’s conservation, adventure, culture and island life all rolled into one.
