We're overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible support we received from our partners and friends, making the inaugural 6060 Ride for Wildlife Challenge and Tree Planting event a resounding success!

Special recognition goes to:

1. Wild is Life team for generously donating trees and providing logistical support.
2. Forestry Commission for their invaluable technical expertise.
3. Mr. Brent Williamson for his kindness in donating a bicycle and offering event management guidance.

*HEARTFELT THANKS TO WILD HORIZONS!*

We extend our sincerest gratitude to the Wild Horizons team, particularly Mr. Clive Bradford, Mr. Reason Ncube, and Ms. Liandra Muza, for their generous gift of a bicycle to our esteemed cyclist, Mr. David Shakiwa Ncube.

Their valuable insights on conservation planning were truly enlightening, and we appreciate the time they took to share their expertise with us.

Furthermore, we were impressed by their indigenous tree nursery management practices and look forward to learning more from them. We will definitely avail more time to gain valuable knowledge from their successful experiences.

*HISTORY IN THE MAKING: THE 6060 RIDE FOR WILDLIFE CHALLENGE TAKES OFF!*

In the early hours of the morning, a team of 6 pioneering cyclists, led by the indefatigable David Shakiwa Ncube, gathered at the starting point. By 4:30 am, they were raring to go, and after a quick check of their bicycles, they set off at 5:10 am for the inaugural 6060 Ride for Wildlife Challenge.

The initial leg of the journey proved to be a daunting test of endurance, as the team tackled the steep and demanding route from the Masuwe River to the grid. Undaunted, they persevered and eventually hit the open road, pedaling steadily towards their destination: Lubangwe.

No to Littering
At the layby just after the 65kilometre peg from Victoria Falls, the first thing we saw was litter all over resembling a dumping site, what came to mind was the immediate danger this paused for wildlife especially elephants and baboons, which often roamed the area. The litter included cold beverage containers and empty fast-food packaging. What however shocked me the most was a huge pile of used diapers, that left me wondering where these had come from and who had been so careless to dump these by a roadside layby.

This Friday 06 December 2024, we will be clearing the layby of all litter, as well as picking litter along the road and the community. This is a first time activity meant to raise awareness in the community of maintain a clean environment..

As a key founder of the renowned Victoria Falls Marathon, Mr. Williamson has demonstrated exceptional leadership in promoting conservation efforts in Victoria Falls. His support for David, a 69-year-old single-leg amputee, is a testament to his compassion and commitment to empowering individuals to make a difference.

Join us this weekend as David cycles 65 kilometers to raise awareness about the devastating effects of deforestation and charcoal making in Lubangwe. Together, we'll plant trees for future generations and promote a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.

With only 5 days to go, we're counting down to our massive tree-planting event this Sunday, 8th December 2024! Join us in Lubangwe as we plant 1000 trees generously donated by our incredible partners, Wild is Life Zimbabwe and The Forestry Commission.
