From books and guides to reading signs in the sand, and hearing the story…
Tracking is an ancient art of reading the subtle signs of nature like the pages of a book.
The skill is not just physical (exceptional eyesight, excellent hearing and a vast knowledge of animal behaviour), It takes sharp senses, patience, and being deeply tuned in to interpret footprints, broken twigs, flattened grass, and piles of dung to show you what animal passed by, in which direction and when👀.
You might not think much of it... When you look closely and learn from your guide or tracker, it becomes a fascinating story. And it’s not just on the ground in front of you. There are smells (dung), alarm calls, scratches on trees, and drag marks off the road, which can tell you if the animal was walking, trotting, hunting or resting.
For a guide, sharing knowledge is usually his passion. Ultimately, tracking teaches the most powerful skill: how to be still, observe, and listen in nature. 🌿
