Last Friday we commemorated World Environment Day at Sizinda Secondary School where we hosted 10 Secondary Schools doing public speaking and 5 primary schools doing quiz. The day began with the First Friday Clean up before the primary schools got into action flexing their mental strength. Lesedi took home gold,Simakade were the bronze winners while BH36 completed the podium finish with bronze. In public speaking it was a tight contest with some individual speaker showing exceptional mastery of public speaking. Mosi came out tops with Hudini School of Science and Technology being the first runner up while the hosts Sizinda Secondary School completed the podium finish as the second runner up. Our humble gratitude to our partners for their continued support towards conservation education. Today we left Mkushi and about 25km from Mkushi town as we head for the Tanzanian border. We are almost halfway across Zambia from Livingstone to Nakonde, the Tanzanian border.

As the sun set yesterday, we were at Mulungushi University where we pitched our Cape to Cairo walk tent. This morning we met Deputy Registrar Mwikwanu Susiku and shared our reason for the walk. Conservation is one subject the University takes seriously and shared that as a way of mitigating deforestation in the Northern Province, they support local communities by providing markets as well as adding value to their produce. They are supporting honey Production as a way of Conserving trees. Once the honey is harvested, they process it and sell it through Shoprite outlets throughout Zambia. Through this initiative, communities have reduced deforestation. We set up the bamboo pole for Eddie to showcase his Chinese pole and people love it. We are contemplating doing a clean up as the university students here have no regard for binning litter, and hope to reward the team that collects more litter🚮 will win a drone. In the evening we will have a meet and greet with students as we share our story, capping it with question and answer. Waking up from Farm,we took off a bit late as we were about 15km to Kabwe, and went to Tree Cafe for our promised breakfast. The message from the owners was simple, order anything you want on the house. I ordered a full English breakfast like James and Eddie had his burger and a humongous plate of chips. We ate our breakfast and as we left the Cafe, the Kabwe cyclists we met on Saturday were by the gate to welcome us. They informed us that there are people waiting for us at the new market. We met the chairperson at the market and took a tour with the Authorities assessing their waste management model and sharing recommendations. We then went to Kabwe Safari Lodge where we are housed tonight courtesy of the owner. @
