Supported by the British Council and led by Paper Bag Africa the programme encouraged participants to learn directly from elders, explore cultures beyond their own, and transform that research into contemporary fashion.

For designer Brightman Dlamini, the experience became a turning point deepening his appreciation of cultural heritage and providing a platform to share Zimbabwe's stories with the world.

Taungana leads with a belief that is straightforward but not always practised: that people are the most important part of any system, and that genuine investment in them changes everything downstream.

Through our Instructional Leadership Training, he developed a people first approach to school leadership that produced real results, stronger teams and improved performance across the institutions he works with. But he did not stop at operational change.

Through our Leading Learning for Gender Equality Programme, he pushed for more structural shifts, working towards inclusive policies that ensure Zimbabwe's education system creates genuinely equal opportunities for every student. His leadership does not just manage systems. It challenges them to be better.

Samah was the first engineer in her family. That says something about who she is. But getting into a field and being accepted in it are two different things, and workplace bias was persistent and real.

She kept going anyway. Through our Connecting Classrooms Programme, she gained skills in coding, entrepreneurship and gender advocacy that gave her both new tools and a clearer sense of what she wanted to build.

What she built was 100 Girls 100 Futures, an initiative grounded in one belief: that young women should be able to pursue any career without limitation. Even in the face of conflict, her work is creating real opportunities for girls who need them most. Her resilience did not just carry her forward. It became a runway for others.

The countdown to Africa Fashion Week London 2026 is on!

From 17–23 August, our Creative DNA programme returns to AFWL, supporting 10 designers from across Sub-Saharan Africa as they take part in a week of learning, collaboration, industry engagement and the runway showcase.

Through Creative DNA, we are creating opportunities for designers to connect with partners and industry across Africa and the UK, reach new audiences and strengthen Africa's growing creative economy.

It's a celebration of creativity, talent and the growing influence of African fashion on the global stage. We look forward to seeing this year's cohort take to the runway in London.
