DEPRESSION AND SU***DE PREVENTION EVENT DRAWS YOUTHS FOR BOLD DIALOGUES IN MPOPOMA

MPOPOMA, BULAWAYO – 28 February 2026

In a powerful display of community solidarity and mental health advocacy, Abangane Platforms, in partnership with Ray of Hope, successfully hosted a Depression and Su***de Prevention Support event at the Inyathi Youth Center in Mpopoma on Saturday.

The event, themed "Transforming minds through bold dialogues," drew a diverse gathering of young people from across Bulawayo who came together to break the silence surrounding mental health challenges. From 11 AM to 2 PM, the venue was filled with honest conversations, shared experiences, and a palpable sense of hope.

At the heart of the event was the courageous sharing of personal stories. Attendees opened up about their struggles with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, creating a safe and non-judgmental space for healing. The highlight of the day was a moving testimony from a prominent local artist, who bravely shared their personal journey with mental health challenges. Their story of struggle, resilience, and hope resonated deeply with the audience, proving that mental health challenges do not discriminate and that recovery is possible with support and the right tools.

"Why this?" the organizers asked. The answer was clear: to help participants integrate evidence-based strategies into their daily lives, building sustainable habits for managing stress and anxiety while fostering resilience.
The event was open to all, reflecting the organizers' belief that mental health education and support should be accessible to everyone. As Zimbabwe continues to grapple with rising mental health challenges among its youth, initiatives like this serve as crucial lifelines, offering not just information but genuine human connection.

RAY OF HOPE BRINGS CHRISTMAS CHEER TO KHAYELIHLE CHILDREN'S VILLAGE THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bulawayo, 21 December 2025

In the true spirit of the festive season, Ray of Hope (ROH) successfully delivered joy and essential support to the children of Khayelihle Children's Village on 20 December 2025, as a key part of our ongoing "Bringing Hope Home for Christmas" drive.

This heartwarming initiative was made possible through a powerful collaboration with fellow community-focused organizations, A Praying Girl Child and Young People For Jesus. Together, our united teams delivered grocery hampers and essential supplies, ensuring the children experience a Christmas filled with nourishment, care, and the undeniable message that their community stands with them.

The event at Khayelihle was a vibrant celebration of shared purpose, embodying our core value of collaboration and inclusiveness. By pooling resources and efforts with our partners, we amplified our impact, demonstrating that collective action is the cornerstone of meaningful community support.

"Partnerships like these are vital to our mission," said Mthandazo JJ Ncube, Executive Director of Ray of Hope. "Working with A Praying Girl Child and Young People For Jesus allowed us to combine our strengths and bring a more substantial wave of hope to these wonderful children. This is what 'Bringing Hope Home' truly means."

In addition to this coordinated visit, Ray of Hope's 2025 Christmas Drive continues to extend its reach through direct outreach programs. The organization is currently in the process of identifying and supporting vulnerable local families in both Bulawayo and Harare, with distributions actively underway to ensure the festive spirit touches as many lives as possible.

Ray of Hope extends its deepest gratitude to its volunteers, the dedicated teams at A Praying Girl Child and Young People For Jesus, and every donor who made this celebration possible. Together, we can!

Ray Of Hope joins in the commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based , and Ray of Hope stands with survivors and victims.

This year, we amplify two crucial messages:

1. "Stop Killing Our Women. They are our strength." 💔
2. "Men are victims also!!!" 👥

Gender-Based Violence is an evil that affects everyone, regardless of gender. It is NEVER the victim's fault. There is NO HONOUR in killing.

If you or someone you know is in danger, please report any related cases to the nearest police station immediately. You are not alone.

Let's break the silence. Let's challenge the norms. Let's choose respect over violence.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month – October 2025
Theme: "Living Beyond Breast Cancer: No One Should Fight Alone"

As we mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Ray of Hope (ROH) stands with survivors, patients, caregivers, and families affected by this disease. Under the theme “Living Beyond Breast Cancer,” we reaffirm our commitment to supporting not just the physical, but also the mental and emotional well-being of those navigating this challenging journey.

A breast cancer diagnosis brings a wave of fear, uncertainty, and immense psychological distress that can be as daunting as the physical illness itself. At Ray of Hope, we believe that true healing encompasses the mind, body, and spirit. No one should have to face this battle in isolation, burdened by anxiety, depression, or the stigma that sometimes accompanies illness.

This month, and every month, we emphasize that "No-one should face breast cancer alone." It is a call to action for our community. To embody this belief, we are focusing our efforts on:

· Raising Awareness and Promoting Early Detection: We join the global voice in educating our communities about the importance of regular self-examinations and clinical screenings. Early detection saves lives and reduces the burden of advanced treatment.
· Fostering a Supportive Community: We encourage everyone to be a pillar of strength. Check on your loved ones, offer a listening ear without judgment, and provide practical help. Together, we can create a network of care that uplifts every person affected.
· Collaborating for Impact: We continue to seek partnerships with healthcare providers, other NGOs, and corporate partners to ensure a comprehensive support system is available to those in need.

Breast cancer is a battle that is won not only in hospitals but also in hearts and minds. Ray of Hope is here to ensure that hope is never lost and that no one walks this path alone.

"Together we can win the fight!!!"

World Mental Health Day – 10 October 2025
Theme: "Mental Health is a Universal Human Right – Let's Make it a Reality in Our Communities"

On this World Mental Health Day, Ray of Hope (ROH) stands in solidarity with the global community to affirm a fundamental truth: mental health is not a privilege, but a universal human right. This year’s theme resonates deeply with our core mission to create a mentally healthy society where no one is left to suffer in silence.

In a world increasingly marked by uncertainty, pressure, and isolation, the psychological well-being of our communities, especially our youth, has never been more critical. We have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of untreated mental health challenges, from the crisis of drug abuse and su***de to the silent struggles of anxiety and depression that hinder potential and steal joy.

Ray of Hope exists to be a beacon in this darkness. Our work is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves access to support, compassion, and professional care.

This World Mental Health Day, we call upon every individual, family, and institution to join us in this vital mission. Let us all commit to:

· Checking in on our loved ones.
· Educating ourselves about mental health.
· Speaking out against stigma.
· Extending a hand of support to those who are struggling.

You are not alone. Your mental health matters.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM RAY OF HOPE

SUBJECT: In Response to the Chronicle Headline: "8-YEAR-OLD IN REHAB FOR DRUG ABUSE"

The recent headline revealing an 8-year-old child in rehabilitation for drug abuse is a devastating and stark wake-up call for our nation. It is a profound tragedy that highlights a crisis escalating to previously unimaginable depths, robbing our youngest and most vulnerable of their childhood, health, and future.

At Ray of Hope (ROH), this story reinforces the critical urgency of our mission and fuels our determination to fight this scourge. We extend our deepest sympathy to the child and their family and stand in solidarity with all families and communities grappling with the impact of substance abuse.

This is precisely the future we are working to prevent.

Our approach to combating this epidemic is multi-faceted and focused on proactive prevention:

1. Awareness and Education: Through our Awareness Campaigns, we work to educate youths, parents, and communities on the dangers of drug abuse.
2. Early Intervention and Mentorship: Our Mentorship Programs specifically target at-risk youth, including the disadvantaged girl child and teenagers, building resilience and self-worth, shuning drugs.
3. Providing Counseling: We offer free and confidential counselling services provided by certified peer counsellors.
4. Collaborative Action: We actively seek to work with churches, schools, other NGOs, and community leaders.

The case of an 8-year-old is a clear indicator that the problem requires a deeper, community-wide intervention that starts at the earliest stages. Ray of Hope is committed to being part of that solution. We call upon parents, community leaders, corporations, and every concerned citizen to join us in this fight. Partner with us, volunteer your time, or support our programs. Together, we can work towards a nation where no child has their future stolen by addiction.

We bring hope to everyone. Help us bring hope to them.

Jerusalem Church of God and Ray of Hope Unite to Combat Youth Drug Abuse in Majiji

MAJIJI, MATABELELAND NORTH – In a powerful collaborative effort to address the growing concern of substance abuse among young people, the Jerusalem Church of God partnered with the charity organization Ray of Hope (ROH) to host a significant prevention campaign on August 30, 2025. The event, held during the church's annual youth conference, was themed “Harvesting Youths for Christ - Building a Drug-Free Nation.”

The campaign took the form of an impactful workshop and a range of sporting activities, designed to educate, empower, and provide alternatives to the youth of Majiji and the surrounding communities. It featured a series of presentations from knowledgeable speakers who tackled pressing issues facing modern youth.

Key topics discussed included:

· ‘Why Christian Youths are Backsliding’: A session exploring the challenges and pressures that lead young people away from their faith and community support structures.

· ‘The Role and Impact of Social Media in a Youth’s Life’: An examination of both the positive and negative influences of digital platforms on mental health and behavior.

· ‘Drugs and Substance Abuse Amongst Youths’: A crucial presentation focusing on the causes, devastating effects, and prevention strategies related to substance abuse, providing attendees with factual information and resources.

The partnership brought together the spiritual foundation and community reach of the Jerusalem Church of God with Ray of Hope’s expertise in advocacy and mental health programming. Since its founding in 2020, Ray of Hope has dedicated a core part of its mission to youth empowerment and drug abuse elimination through awareness campaigns and free counseling services, making them an ideal partner for this initiative.
