After 13 hrs on the road today, Liesl and I were ready to crash and burn tonight . Our week had been difficult, filled with the worst cruelty cases we have ever seen.
Taking pups to new homes today brought us such happiness, which was shattered, while not even back in Vredendal, Law Enforcement contacted us.
They had a situation with a dog and needed me to weigh in with guidance.
Look at the dog 😡
Our laws do not protect our animals. The owner will get a fine. The owner has caused his animal grave harm, and he gets to walk away with a tap on the wrist and a fine. Which I can tell you now will be reduced to almost nothing, as the owner will go to the prosecutor and plead poverty and just like that the fine gets reduced. Law Enforcement can't do more as our by-laws are so outdated. There are updated by-laws on the cards, the longer it takes to get these by-laws passed, the longer the animals suffer.
As the Angel Project, we see the heartbreaking reality of neglect, abuse, abandonment, and suffering far too often. We believe stronger animal welfare laws are urgently needed in South Africa to better protect dogs and cats. Tougher consequences for cruelty, responsible pet ownership, and stronger enforcement can help create a safer future for vulnerable animals. Together, we can give a voice to those that cannot speak.
How many more innocent dogs and cats must suffer before stronger action is taken? South Africa needs stricter animal protection laws, tougher penalties for cruelty, and better enforcement to safeguard vulnerable animals. We call on communities, authorities, and animal lovers to stand together and advocate for change. Animals deserve protection, compassion, and justice.
Thank you to our Matzikama Law Enforcement department for uplifting the dog and to the Matzikama Animal Care & Welfare NPC shelter for opening up this evening to admit the dog.
Only we the citizens of South Africa can bring about change 🐾💫
