Isakhono Program

Our Isakhono learners recently had a valuable exposure to trade skills through a trip organised by Rumour Has It . CB Project Company in Philippi hosted the group and provided an engaging and inspiring experience. Learners were introduced to both the practical and business side of the industry, from understanding client requests, to learning about design, architecture, logistics and project planning.

The session encouraged learners to see the many different career opportunities available within the trade industry. The team also shared personal experiences, career advice and practical demonstrations where learners had the opportunity to work hands-on under the guidance of professionals.

Grade 10 & 11 Campus Tour

Last week Friday, our Grade 10 and 11 learners had an exciting opportunity to attend a campus tour hosted by Stellenbosch University EBSK program. The learners explored different areas of campus life, starting with the Commerce Faculty where they experienced university classrooms, structures and expectations.

One of the highlights of the day was visiting the university library, which left many learners inspired and motivated. The day also included tours around campus, the student centre and other university facilities where learners enjoyed snacks, gifts and interactive Q&A sessions.

Open Day

Our Grade 12 learners had a valuable opportunity to attend the Open Day events at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and The University of the Western Cape.

The learners were hosted by Thandiswa, one of our proud alumni, who guided and supported them throughout the experience. It was inspiring for our learners to hear firsthand about university life, different study opportunities and the importance of preparing for their future careers.

An interesting reading on attention, learning and the future of our children.

Our children can focus, just not always on what grows them. Rebuilding focus and a love for reading is no longer optional, it’s essential. This is exactly what we are committed to addressing.

There is growing frustration in South African classrooms. Around 80% of Grade 4 pupils cannot read for meaning, even when they can recognise words. Many learners no longer sustain reading in the way previous generations did. Ask them to work through a long passage and focus often fades within minutes. Yet these same children can spend hours on TikTok, scroll continuously on Instagram, or remain deeply absorbed in a game on a PS5, writes UFS Dr Remeredzayi Gudyanga

Legacy Alumni

Today we had the opportunity to reconnect with our alumni.

We heard honest stories about where they are now, the challenges they are facing, and what keeps them pushing forward. From small wins to big dreams, it’s inspiring to see the resilience and growth in each of them.

Moments like these matter. They remind us that progress takes time, discipline and the right support.

We’re proud of every step they are taking and we keep journeying together.

Poem by one of our Primary school learner

Legacy

In a place called Legacy where love shines bright,
Kids gather round with hearts full of light
No racism found, just trust and hope around,
Teacher are great, making learning sound

With homework help, and a caring vibe.
Legacy the place where kids thrive, they
Treat us the same; with respect and kindness too,
A sound haven, where love is what they do in this
Space, dreams are made and futures unfold

Legacy the name where heart are made of gold; in
this special pace is where love, hope and dreams fill
up every space

Freedom Day was truly one to remember with our teens 🇿🇦

Despite the cold and rainy weather, the day turned into a powerful lesson, reminding us that the journey toward freedom is not always easy. Just like the rain and tough conditions, life brings challenges, but perseverance builds strength.

Our hike to the Banghoek Waterfall was nothing short of unforgettable. The learners showed incredible courage, pushing through some of the toughest obstacles along the trail. It was inspiring to watch them step up as brave hearts, encouraging one another every step of the way. And at the top, the reward was breathtaking, a view that made every challenge worth it.

We ended the hike with a meaningful reflection session. We spoke about what it truly means to be free, the challenges that can hold us back, and the responsibility that comes with freedom. Grounding our conversation in Romans 12:2, we explored the importance of spiritual freedom, choosing transformation over conformity, and living with purpose.

A day filled with growth, courage, and unforgettable memories.
